When I start my 1988 VW Cabriolet with a cold engine, the BAR gauge shows the oil pressure pegged to the right. After the engine heats up, the oil pressure indicated drops under 2 if I am at 2000 to 2500 rpm, and the low oil pressure light comes on along with the warning buzzer. If I increase the rpm to 3000 or more, the reading on the BAR gauge increases and the warning light and buzzer go off. Any thoughts on what's going on?

I would replace the oil pressure sending unit first and see if that corrects this.

SOURCE: Horsepower of 4.9L and how to increase its Horsepower

go to cliffordperformance.com. read the info and decide what your budget will allow you to buy. if you dont want to tear the engine down, i would suggest that you go on e-bay and get your self a 4barrel intake and a 390cfm carb. add a set of headers and your engine will breathe better, run faster and believe it or not, get better gas mileage than your getting now.

SOURCE: The RPM of Nissan Altima stays high when drive over 65 MPH.

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.

The injectors has no wires going to them they are mechanical injectors

Hi, they are engine timed injectors, and yes they work from injector pump pressure, as for the cold start there will probably be separate glow plugs which will have either a wire or a buz bar connecting them all with a common feed. Hope that helps

Engine 3800 for 98 Park ave. shows oil pressure too high on the gauge. what could cause this

Sounds like your oil pressure sending unit is faulty! When you turn the key on, is the gauge reading low, then you start it and it pegs out? if so, the sending unit has failed.

1989 VW cabriolet oil pressure warning light on at low rpm and idle. Oil pressure gauge shows sub 1 bar at same time. Is this a sending unit problem, or an oil pump problem? Where are sending units? ...

The Oil light is a dreaded sight, especially at idle. Usually if an oil pump fails, it dies, the same with an oil pressure sender. I had the same problem with a 97 neon, at idle the oil light comes on... (192,000 miles). If the oil used at the oil change was a thinner viscosity than what was in there, that could cause it. If not, it could be bearings going bad on the motor creating a low pressure situation. I fixed it by going to a thicker viscosity, from 5w-30 to 10w-30, and in a week the light went off... this was 7 months ago. Just food for thought, hope this helps.

Oil Pressure Problems on a 1988 Iszuzu Trooper

This engine is only the 4ZE1 2.6L EFI in the USA spec-models. The engine will run for a very long time with proper maintenance. Oil pressure falling only after warm-up indicates that the oil, when cold, is thick enough to make the pressure sending unit sense the oil. When it heats up the sending unit may not detect it as the oil thins out. The sending unit is what makes the gauge give an indicator its signal.

I would check the sending unit first, as your concern does not indicate a clattering engine or other problem. This model engine has a circuit that shorts the ignition to ground and kills the engine if the oil pressure ACTUALLY falls below a set minimum. Indicators of this problem are a loud clattering in the engine, as well an engine that will start and then stall for no reason.

Good luck!
