Question about Hyundai Accent

2 Answers

I have a 2000 Hyundai Accent, automatic transmission. I was driving down the road yesterday and at about 60 MPH, the car shuttered. Since then, it shutters every time you reach about 55 MPH. Most of the time, it runs fine in first gear, shifts to second, but then won't go out of second. Other times, it feels as if it's stuck in second, has no acceleration from 0 MPH, until it reaches around 25 MPH, or around the spot where 2nd gear would kick in normally. I've been reading online about this and I'm curious as to whether this might be a serious transmission problem, or if it can be cheaply fixed. It will make the difference between scrapping or not scrapping this car. The only other warning is a CEL, but it's on constantly because of the way I had the catalytic converter "fixed". Any idea what codes the computer would throw back if I hooked it up to a diag-machine?

The transmission is in limp mode the reason you have no power is because the transmission is stuck in 2nd gear that is what it is supposed to do when it sees a problem with its self it has a fail safe program in the on-board computer that allows you to drive the car to a shop at reduced speed and power it most likely is low line pressure in the transmission the only way to repair it is to have the transmission replaced or rebuilt.....sorry

Sounds like the solenoid is going in the transmission, typically it works or it doesn't though.. In a similar case, I had several strands of the power wire were broken.
Problem is many people are too scared to look too deep into it and transmission repair shops like to pay their mortgages for performing this type of work...
Otherwise, simple things which may have been overlooked -- have you (properly) checked the transmission fluid? Some cars require to run or turn off the vehicle or even run through the gears before checking the fluid level... so be sure you have the correct way of checking the fluid level in your vehicle.

Possibly but to find the fault have the fault codes read . It may be the accelerator position sensor . Don't waste money until you have the codes to point you in the right direction

2001 hyundai accent overdrive button

The overdrive will only come into use when the transmission module reads the correct revs/ road speed ratio. Switch if off for heavy city traffic driving to improve economy when it moves up and down all the time. No it will not harm the transmission otherwise.

Had the same problem. Changed the speed sensors on the transmission, and problem went away. Sensors are sold as a pair and are available aftermarket for about $60 CDN

What is the ignition immobilizer on a 2000 accent

Hello William. On standard transmissions you have to press down the clutch to start the car, and on automatic transmissions you have to press down on the brake pedal in order to start the car. Look for your immobilizer under the dash at clutch or brake pedals depending on trans. Hope this was helpful, GOOD LUCK.
