I have a 2005 grand cherokee I just changed the waterpump now it runs hot and the information panel reads transmission over heating. What could the problem be?

Check the water level in the radiator as you may have had an air lock on initial fill and now the water level is below the top of the radiator cores. The transmission oil cooler is in the radiator and the box temp sensor will be reading hot because there is no water to cool the transmission oil

Unless you know for sure that it has been changed in the past, I would change it, just to help prolong the life of the transmission, and have piece of mind knowing it has been done and when. Be sure to change oil with nothing other than Mopar transmission oil. It has been proven time and time again, that other oils that say they are same, are not, and you will get better life and performance by using Mopar oil. It is also highly recommended to use Autopar/Mopar filter as well. I don't work for Chrysler/dodge, but did for years, and know that when it comes to the transmission, don't go with anything else but Mopar/Autopar Parts on the transmission especially. You may be able to try other brand of parts in some areas, but don't do it in this case.

Should i use synthetic oil on my 05 Grand Cherokee Laredo instead of conventional?

I would only use synthetic oil if there is a sticker on the engine compartment or the manual says that it is recommended.

I would use conventional oil unless otherwise specified.

Just have it changed every 3,000 mi. along with the filter and lube.

What kind of fees should I expect for a transmission fluid and filter change for an 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Well there is always 2 options; You can flush it which would be around $150-$250 depending on the shop, or you can do what we refer to as a spill and fill, the transmission pan is removed and the filter is changed, normally $100-$200. The flush removes all the the fluid in your transmission, and trans cooler (about 12 Quarts). The other option only removes about 4 quarts of the transmission fluid and is not very effective.
