Yes (but don't actually FILL it). There will be marks on the side of the reservoir indicating "full - cold" and "full - hot". Fill only to the "full - cold" level.

Now that I've answered you basic question....let me ask you one. Have you looked for any leaks that would have caused the reservoir to empty out in the first place?

If you refill the reservoir as I've indicated, only to have it empty out again, you've got bigger issues.

Look for signs of coolant leakage (hoses, hose connections, radiator core, radiator cap, heater core, etc.)

Good luck!

Sure,. sounds like a good plan to me.,. you may want to also inspect to be sure it's not broken or otherwise cracked. and fill the the respective level line (when engine is cold or hot). You may be able to simply use a 50-50 prestone blend or full strenght if the existing coolant is low on antifreeze depending upon your needs climate-wise...

How to add antifreeze 2002 dodge intrepid

Open the container of antifreeze. Using a separate EMPTY gallon-size container, pour out HALF of the contents into the empty container, making sure not to spill any. Now, FILL the newly filled container with tap water. Fill the rest of the antifreeze with water, also. Now, you are ready to add antifreeze to your vehicle! Simply locate the radiator cap, (Don't touch it if it's hot!!) and unscrew it. Pour the desired amount of your mixed antifreeze into the radiator. Remember not to do this without proper knowledge!

If the coolant light comes on & your
coolant bottle is empty,your loosing
coolant somewhere

Most likely an intake gasket or head gasket

Your statement --- it doesn't over heat
Then why is the coolant light on ??

Fill the container and have it checked

Coolant level ok no leaks new 195 deg. thermostat still very little heat from heater defective heater core?

I am assuming your vehicle has the pink antifreeze called Dexcool. This is the recommended coolant for all late model GM cars and trucks. This coolant tends to form a pasty sludge in the cooling system which can lead to overheating and/or plugged up heater core. Try flushing the cooling system with a good aftermarket product such as prestone radiator flush. First thing to do is drain all the pink coolant, then add the radiator flush and fill with plain water. Run the engine according to directions on the flush container. Drain the radiator again and refill with plain water. Run the engine for a few minutes and drain again. Keep repeating this until all the pink antifreeze has been eliminated. Fill the system with 2 gallons of green antifreeze. Make sure the antifreeze container says it is compatible with aluminum engine parts. Hope this helps. If it does, then you won't have to replace the heater core.

Where do you put water in a 1996 mercury mystique. I can't tell where the radiator is. I only see the coolant container

If you fill up the coolant container it will get into the radiator if it is low. If your radiator is completely empty remove the highest hose on the engine and fill through the top of the motor. Otherwise the coolant container is the only place to add coolant. Hope that helps!

I'm not too familiar with Saturns ('98). How do I fill the radiator. There is little smoke around where the engine is and I just checked the oil, coolant, and transmission and they're fine, so I'm guessing...

if the radiator was empty the engine would be extremely overheated, some dash lights would be telling you about it and you could smell it. Radiator coolant level is maintained through the overflow container on top of the inner fender, it looks kind of like a wiper fluid container. opaque plastic, snap open lid, connected to radiator via a hose, has hot and cold fill lines on the outside.

Low coolant

Regular Prestone or Peak Anti-Freeze. You should always pour it in the coolant tank, as the radiator needs coolant, it is drawn in from the coolant tank to the radiator, and also the reverse, so you only want to fill it up to the "FULL" level on the bottle. Recheck it after it's been driven.

This particular car is probably still running the green antifreeze in it. You can purchase some from prestone that will mix with all types and will not hurt the vehicle. If you are topping off the overflow bottle on fill it halfway up that way it gives it room to recirculate without overflowing.
