My 98 vw golf gti wont start we have changed the battery 4 times it will start with a jump we have had the charging system checked the altanator the starter checked and each time we have the battery checked it says it is bad the funny thing is while i was driving it the song came on as if the door was open

run a diagnosis tell me wat codes ,also check charge rate, correct battery and amperage important on this vehicle check earthcables also

The first thing you need done is to have the battery load tested and verified as being in good condition,.

Check spark plugs, and your air filter.

A mechanic would check the clutch safety switch for power, then the key switch.

You need to check that the alternator is charging the battery.

CHECK YOUR GAS TANK MAYBE EMPTY OR THE COMPUTER NEEDS MORE POWER TO FUNCTION ALL THE SYSTEM OF THE CAR. oR THE BATTERY IS WEAK OR NOT FULLY CHARGE.

You need to charge your battery up more. Either get a battery charger or leave the jumper cables hooked up for a longer period of time.
Your battery was probably completely dead. You might even need a new battery...they really don't like to be completely drained.
