Question about 1995 Lexus LS 400

1 Answer

I have a 1995 Lexus LS 400. Occasionally it is hard to start. I turn the key and nothing happens. I wait a few minutes and try again and the car starts. My mechanic tested the battery and charging system and found them OK. Could it be a dead spot on the starter? Would a tune up be in order. The car has 128,000 miles. I've owned it for 4 years and have not had a tune up...thanks.

Tune up wouldn't hurt. replace the air and fuel filters too. And yes you most likely have a dead spot on the starter. It will only keep getting worse

Will not start, battery is new, it just clicks and nothing. turn it off, try again and nothing, try again and it starts

Try cleaning and tightening well the battery connections along with the battery wires to the solenoid and starter motor.

Bad connections and low voltage of 12 volts can result in this anomaly.

Transmission or altenator?

I would say change the alternator out. Start with the simplest and cheapest factor first. Without the alternator keeping the engine running its hard to put it any gear.

If you can, drive to Autozone, they can scan your Lexus and test your battery and alternator and tell you why that light is on,it's free and only takes a few minutes.

Sounds like a dead battery to me. You will probably need a new battery, a new alternator, or both.

I have a lexus LS 400 (1995) model. What I don't

It is a bad (leaky) electrolytic capacitor in the dash board that cost a few dollars. The dealer wants to install a whole new dashboard assembly for big $$$.

My 1990 Lexus LS 400 stalls unexpedly (at any speed). When put in neutral, it starts up and runs fine for a few minutes then stalls again. Why?

Your fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator are not supplying constant fuel pressure. Too much or too little is causing it to kill. You can pull the vacuum line from the regulaor and check for gas. If there is none, you need a pump, it is weak.

I just went out to start my car, and the key turns but nothing happens except the dashboard lights come on. No turn over, no noise.....

It sounds like you ignition switch went out. I had this happen to my wife a few years ago you turn the key the acceseries turn on but nothing else. this will be a trip to the dealer. did you happen to smell something electrical burning the last time you car was working if so it is the starter switch. you will need to take it to the deales an get a ne w switch which will also involve new keys$$$
