Most likely blown head gasket. Check engine oil dip stick for presence of coolant in the oil ( Milky). Also excessive vapor (steam) at exhaust pipe, while engine is running.

Jags are HARD to work on, and even HARDER to buy parts for ... so ... have you ever heard of K-Seal? If it WORKS, it could save you $1,000's! If it doesn't work, you're out less than $20!

SOURCE: Water pump problem?

You need to make sure you don’t have an air lock. Find the bleeder valve for the coolant system and release the air. If you can’t find the bleeder, find the highest hose for the coolant system and make sure coolant is flowing through it.

SOURCE: Hi Have a 2004 Jaguar S-Type that keeps

The 12-cylinder engine is a hot-running engine to begin with, so if you've changed thermostats, did you install one that opens at a lower temperature? (that depends on your local climate too, but your thermostat may be stuck-closed, or opening at a higher temp than desired).

does your car have an Auxiliary Electric Fan or two?,(in front of the radiator?), Is it coming ON when the gauge reaches a certain temperature? If not, the auxiliary fan Relay, Fuse, or Thermo-Switch (if applicable) may be bad. I am guessing here because I am not familiar with the particular model, but the 12-cylinder engine since the 1970's has a pair of electric "air-pusher" Fans which came wired from the factory to come ON and stay ON as long as the A/C compressor is ON. In other words, they should run as soon as you turn theclimate control to ON. Compare that to the XJ-6 which has a Thermo-Switch to control the temperature at which the Auxiliary Fan comes ON.

All the above assumes your Cylinder Head Gasket is good, and that you have the required mix and quantity of coolant & water in the system. A product called "Water-Wetter" might help with lowering the temp, you just add it to the coolant/water mix. It is usedin race cars. Whenever topping up the coolant, start with a COLDengine, turn the HeaterON to maximum temperature so thatthe Heater Valve opens when the engine reaches operating temp and allows coolant to fill the Heater system too.

And last: is the Water Pump good? No leaking through the "weep hole" ?

Sounds like you have a current drain on the battery even when switch off. With the ignition off put a ammeter between the negative lead and the negative terminal of the battery and measure the current drain. If detected now remove and reinsert each fuse in turn noting the change in current flow. By this process you will isolate the offending circuit. Interior glove-box or trunk lights can be the very devil since like a fridge light you can never tell if they go off when they should.

Mitsubishi shogun 1998 model 2.8 over heating no leeks water is blowing back into the overflow bottle when hot

How are you sure it is overheating? Temp gauge? Most likely are stuck thermostat, bad fan thermostat switch, bad fan. bad head gasket. Coolant going into overflow when hot is how that system is suppose to work. As it cools, fluid is drawn back into radiator. It it is not really overheating, bad radiator cap can allow coolant into reservoir more than normal.

If my top radiator hose gets hot but not my bottom one does this mean my thermostat is bad

I don't know how did you test your radiator but if you apply below steps you can clarify your problem easier.

If you want to test your radiator:
A) Park your car (it takes more longer to get real temperature values, if the car is moving)
B) Start the engine (don't forget to engage handbrake)
C) Wait around 10 to 15 minute
D) If your top radiator hose gets hot and bottom radiator hose gets warm; your radiator is functional. (In few minutes your radiator fan suppose to work)

If bottom radiator hose is still cold, it means there is a problem at thermostat. If you see any leakage at thermostat housing at the end of above step C, you need to renew thermostat housing gasket too. Even if you buy new thermostat, i suggest you to test it before assembly. If new thermostat doesn't open enough, your car may run so hot.

If you would like to test your thermostat:
A) Boil water in disposable bowl (thermostat may exposure chemical substances)
B) Put thermostat into boiling water.
C) If thermostat opens totaly, it is ready for assembly.

88 dodge chadow, overheating and no heat

How long has it been going on? You need to check if you have a bad head gasket. A compression test of the cylinders would tell you. Not saying that's what it is, but that can be a cause of overheating. And it can also be an expensive result of prolonged overheating. That's why mechanics caution against running an overheating engine. If you find the head gasket is good, it will give you great peace of mind, knowing the Shadow's engine warrants a few more dollars in repairs. Compared to the cost of a new head gasket and having the head checked for straightness and for cracks, other repairs for overheating is minimal.
First check the coolant level and keep it full. It could be a worn water pump. Feel for pressure behind the coolant when you squeeze the upper radiator hose for a second or two. The engine needs to be warmed up and running, so the thermostat is open. Try to squeeze the hose closed, then let off and feel for a surge of coolant, and watch the coolant in the radiator for pressure pushing coolant on through the radiator. Kind of a rough test if pump is circulating coolant. You might also try a new thermostat. They are cheap and easy to replace. Clean the outside of the radiator of leaves or dirt. It should be checked for blockage. When upper hose is hot, the lower hose should also be hot or quite warm, just not as hot as the upper hose. If it is, radiator seems not blocked.
Don't worry about having no heat at this time. When the overheating is solved, and coolant level is full, the heater will return.

2006 CHEVY COBALT OVERHEATING HAS NEW RADIATOR WATER PUMP AND THERMOSTAT

That is normal, it will not get hot without the thermostat. The water cools in the radiator and falls to the bottom and the bottom hose is cold. This is what cools the engine and stops it from overheating.

It could be the fan temp. switch but it shouldn't have been boiling in the overflow tank. I'd recommend doing a compression test to see if you have a blown head gasket. If it's a blown head gasket, the compressed air/fuel mix being force into the cooling system could well look like boiling in the over flow tank.

I have a 1997 kia overheating i have removed the thermostat

You have to install a new Thermostat because if the motor has no water pump thermostat sends all the coolant to the radiator and therefore the engine never warmed and you will not have heat because the coolant never be heated

Overheating 94 tercel

Overheating can be the result of several things including: No coolant, stuck thermostat, cracked head, blown head gasket, bad water pump, cracked radiator side tanks, and poin holes in one or more hoses.

Start with the easiest things first. Check coolant level, if it's low you need to find out why. If it's at a normal level you know the coolant is not circulating through the motor. To test this run the car to temperature then feel the upper radiator hose, it should be hot and firm to the touch. Next feel the lower radiator hose it to should be hot and firm to the touch. If it's not the coolant isn't flowing through the motor which is the result of a stuck thermostat.

If the thermostat checks out ok crawl under the car and check all the connections between hoses/motor/radiator. Look at the side tanks of the radiator. If there's a carack in one they will only leak while the system is under pressure. Next check to make sure the water pump is circulating the coolant and not leaking. A siezed water pump will usually stop the pulley from turning resulting in a broken belt.

NExt look around the area of the head gaskets for signs of leakage, again this will only leak while the system is under pressure. Check the oil, if it looks milky there's coolant in it which is a sure sign of a gasket failure or cracked head. Good luck.

97 Range Rover all of sudden started over heatting, boiling over from the reservoir and coolant area. Just put in new brakes? What could the overheatting be from? New water pump and new thermostats. How do...

Yes, could have air traped in the system, but from my experience this only gives a false indicator of being hot. When I see a car overheat I think thermosat, fan, radiator cap, or headgasket/craked head in that order. You have already changed the thermostat, so the nest thing to check would be the fan clutch. You can check this by spinning the fan when both hot and cold. When hot it should get very hard to spin- I like less than one revolution when given a good spin. Also a good indicator of a bad fan would be if it gets hotter in town than on the highway. On th e highway you get ram air that helps to cool it down. Radiator caps need the gaskets inspected for crackes and hardness. If crackes are present or to hard they won't seal causing the radiator to overflow. They should also be preasure tested by a local shop or parts store. If the preasure is to low this will also alow the car to heat up quicker and also allow the radiator to empty at a lower temp. The best way to test for a cobustion chamber leak is at a shop. Many shops can test for this right at the radiator with a special dye that will change color in the presence of combustion chamber gases in the collant system. You will notice that I never metioned water pump even though you already change it. Water pumps either pump or they leak, very rarley will they not pump water causing an overheating problem. The only way they will cause an engine to overheat is if they loose the ability to pump water through the loss of the impeller or a broken shaft- or on the very rare occasion an impeller that has run so long that it is worn out.
