Question about Ford F-350

1 Answer

The headlights on my F350 will sometimes come on by themselves. The light emitted from them is very dim, but it drains my batteries. Any ideas?

Alot of the times the headlight swithes will get so hot it will start melting the electrical connecter to the switch. The switch needs replacing and they also have a repair kit at your local Ford dealership thyat is supposed to fix that problem. You need to know basic wiring because they have you reroute some wires in the switch.

Headlights turn on by themselves when vehicle is parked.

Do you have auto lights when it gets dark out? When they come on is it in a parking garage or home garage where its dark If so chances are your switch/relay unit is bad. (or do they come on in daylight too)?

Before you start 'modifying' the wiring, firstly make sure that the alternator is emitting enough charge.
There is a good chance that the carbon brushes inside, have worn out.
Hope that does it:)

Does it go completely black or just dim? Most displays dim when you turn the lights on to make the display darker so its not too bright. GPS and other displays do this. Do you have any problems with any other of the car's electronics?
