Question about 1999 Chrysler 300M

1 Answer

We have a 1999 Chrysler 300 & after so many times of not starting and leaving me stranded, we figured out the problem was the Starter Solenoid. We took out the Starter, replaced the Solenoid and got the Starter put back in, and the car starts right up, but there is a loud whistling sound that won't stop, and we are afraid it's something serious so we just shut it back off. We've gone through everything to make sure we got the starter and all parts back in correctly? Anyone have any idea?

It sounds like the steel plate between the starter and gearbox must have got bent while fitting the starter and is now scraping against the flywheel

Intermittent starter issues. On my boat it very hard to access the starter and solenoid. When my boat starts it runs perfect. I can start and run it and shut it off numerous times. Now twice it has refused...

replace the solenoid, but,if you are worried about being stranded, while you are there, replace the starter and on all connections, use electrical grease,to keep corrosion away, always use lock washers so nothing gets loose too.

My 1990 chrysler new yorker clicks when i try to start. A little later i try again & starts right up & runs fine. Within a couple days it wont start, only clicks once...repeat

Probably the starter solenoid. Over time the contact points, or plates, inside the solenoid get pitted or worn down. The starter will have to be removed to separate the starter motor and solenoid. Or just get a used starter and try it.

I have a Chrysler 300 (2005) Tourning. The car will not crank up. The lights, and radio will turn on. Do you have any ideas?

Check the fuses first. Especially, look for a fuse for the starter or starter solenoid or just solenoid. If the fuses are all fine, make sure that the security system is being properly disarmed. i.e. are the batteries in the remote dead? is the key dirty or otherwise malfunctioning? if the alarm seems to be disarming properly, then it's time to troubleshoot the starter motor....

My 1999 tahoe ticks when u start it, but it does not always do it. some times it will go weeks with doing it.

This is normally the starter/solenoid in the first stage of failure.....Or it could just be a bad connection.or relay...Check battery cables for tightness...If they are tight disconnect negative cable and check wiring holddown nuts at starter solenoid and starter ground with socket ratchet...DONT overtorque....just make sure they are tight......A lot of times the smallest wire at the solenoid will be the loose one...It should be 8mm.nut holding wire....It is very easy to overtorque starter nuts so be very careful and only snug tight...Reconnect battery...If all seems to be clean and tight your problem should lie at the starter.......I have seen them have the same problem but take a very long time before they actually completely stop working.....It is best to change it before it completely fails leaving you stranded......But first check all wiring...Also some have a seperate solenoid mounted under hood at firewall...With an assistant find exactly where tick noise is coming from...It should be at starter or firewall solenoid....Some relays will make a very small noise as well...................

2006 Chrysler 300, no start

It is all about troubleshooting. Possible causes are a dead battery. Did someone try to steal it and cut the wrong wires underneath?
The starter solenoid could be bad.
If the headlights stay bright when you try to start the car then it is not the battery. if you hear clicking and the headlights are very dim then it is likely to be the battery. If you have full battery with good cable connections and you get very active clicking but no starts then the solenoid on the starter has burned contacts. if battery is good but no clicking when trying to start then the problem is in the key area or alarm system.
All the areas mentioned above are place to start and troubleshooting steps.

Won't turn over

The starter is going bad. The contacts in the solenoid are worn out. Best thing to do is replace the starter now before it leaves you stranded at the most inconvenient time.
