Question about 1994 Dodge Intrepid

The RPM's are high, all the time when driving. Makes a loud noise when accelerating. It is very difficult to drive over 35mph. Smells like it is burning after driving it.

Transmission gears are burnt out not shifting to top gear. Time for a rebuild or replacement. The high RPM's make the motor hot and will smell bad if oil is burning on valve covers.

You may as well just go to a trans shop
and ask to have the trans rebuilt

Very often the power steering belt can cause this noise if it is loose or just worn. The pump itself can cause a noise check and make sure it is full of fluid.

Sounds like the power steering pump is locking up and the belt is slipping. Get it checked out before you drive it.

Have you checked your oil and fluid levels in the engine and transmisson.
if it's a manual could the clutch be worn out causing the high rpm and thrust bearing noise in the clutch.

You state that car makes a loud noise when driving. Do you notice the sound more when you accelerate? If yes, then it could be either the exhaust manifold gasket or the donut gasket. The donut gasket is where the exhaust pipe connects to the exhaust manifold.

98 lincoln navigator loud noise, shaking, high rpm at idle, drive

I don't know how much oil you had to put in but it sounds like you have maybe more than opne issue and both sound major. One is engine reving and speed not picking up sounds like trans problem. Two the engine shaking and making noise and being run low on oil leans toward possible engine damage. If your mechanicly inclined check all fluids and when checking trans fluid smell it. If it smells burnt the trans has been damaged. Check oil pressure and make sure coolant is full. You may have to take it into the shop.
