Question about 1988 Chevrolet C1500

Open Question

I have a 88 K1500. The oil pressure guage in reading over 60psi after an oil change. I found a replacement guage in the Mens Store, the Junk Yard, and switched the guage. The same reaction occurs Would this indecate the sensor has gone bad. Oil level is good from oil change. The engine was replaced 3 years ago and has now about 30K miles presently.

That eliminates the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors. Have you checked the fuel injector itself for an open winding or stuck valve plunger? There should not be a steady 12 volts to the injector--if good injector, it would be spraying fuel steadily into the throttle body. But at least the engine should try to run if poorly. Take the injector out, dry it off with air, and intermittently apply 12 volts to one terminal while grounding the other. You should hear a click from inside every time you touch 12 volts. If not, replace it. If it does, it may be plugged with debris. Try blowing through it in reverse with compressed air.

Not with the right tools by the Oil Pressure Sending unit (AKA OPS) tool that will fit in there you may have to contort your body a little.

Probably your oil sending unit going bad...It controls the reading sent to your dash..They don't cost much..But finding it can be a challenge..Just two wires going to it..Looks like a big spark plug...But I wouldn't drive it until I found out..

Oil pressure guage reading max

Remove the sending unit on the engine and check the oil press with a test gauge, if the oil pressure is good on the test gauge replace the oil press sending unit on the engine. Note the removal and installation of the sending unit requires a special socket, that is available at any auto parts store, you will likely need the deep version of that socket for a Chrysler product.

This process requires special tools as well as refrigerent license. The oil type and quantity is critical. This may best be a job left to a shop, as the tools are pricey.

Theres a sound on the top head and it sounds like lifters. also it wont boost and the oil pressure is low, very low, can i get help with this please

Lifers will rattle if oil pressure is low. Have you screwed in an oil pressure guage to check. Should read about 20 psi at idle and 40-60psi above idle.
Causes are nemerous from low oil level to worn out engine. You dont mention mileage. Normally very good engines.

My hi and low beam headlights were broken in a small damage accident-1991 olds delta 88 royale-my local supply store tells me a replacement is not available? can any advise thank you bill

hi bill, I think the problem might be the glass cover for the headlights. I checked, and the 87-91 olds delta 88 have a replacement bulb, not a sealed beam headlight. I assume the glass cover (lens) of the headlights were broken due to the minor accident. The headlight lens, or glass, might be found in an auto salvage yard. You might find new ones at a dealership, but they would be very hard to find for a 91, as they don't make them anymore, due to the cars age (no demand to make manufacturing them worthwhile). So check the junk yard, it's your best bet. Good luck, Curt
