well after not finding any info on what it could be ... i changed the pump once again .. a higher quality pump this time ... gets easier the second time :) ... but im still at square one ... still have water coming out of the weep hole ... took your advise on letting it run see if maybe it would seal and neither pump did .... still looking for the answer

how much water you loosing from weep hole
are you sure its not coming from above weep hole and leaking down

  • Anonymous Feb 16, 2011

yeah ... i have a lift in my garage so i can see it directly .... no little drips going on ... it pours out of the weep hole ...

are you fitting new pumps ,if you are has to be a pump problem ,what your supplier say

  • Anonymous Feb 16, 2011

not sure what you mean by fitting ... supplier tried to make it up by giving me the second pump of higher qaulity for exchange ... pump does seem to seat right in .. and the second had a much higher quality gasket ... like an aluminum gasket plate which i did apply blue rtv to around the gasket itself ... being a pressurized system ... might i need to somehow get the pressure back before it will direct the water in the right way ?

  • richochet Feb 16, 2011

if its coming out of weep hole gasket would not have any affect ,it is the seal in bearing housings that is leaking letting water past

There is a small hole (called a weep hole) on the underside of the water pump. Coolant will leak out of this hole when the water pump goes bad. Verify the leak and replace the water pump

Just replaced the water pump due to a leak not on it but behind the pump. I was told the leak was a tatle tale showing i needed a new pump. I still have anti freeze coming out behind it. any ideas?

The pump does have a weep hole in it. If a seal in the pump fails coolant will come out of the weep hole. Looks like you may have a bad water pump seal, but check gaskets, intake manifold and hoses as these can leak in this area as well. So determine where the coolant is coming from before investing in a new waterpump.

2002 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L V8 leaking coolant out of what looks to be a weep hole from the water pump. Is my water pump bad, or just a seal (gasket)?

If the coolant is coming out of the weep hole on the pump then the pump will need to be replaced to correct the problem. Hope this will help you.

Coolant leaking on drivers side? have replace resevior and wateroutlet

Sounds very much like a water-pump.

Look for a leak below the water pump.
If so we believe the inter seal of the water pump to be the failure, this will result in a coolant weep coming from the weep hole near the center shaft of the water pump.

RECOMENDATION:
Replace the water pump.

We hope this tip guides to to your solution.

I have a coolant leak and I belive I need to replace the water pump, A 2004 GMC P-up 4.3 V-8

You need to locate the water pump. It is turned by a fan belt. There should be water hoses running into and out of the pump. Water pumps have a weep hole that leaks water when the pump starts to fail. It is usually hard to see as it is behind the pulley for the fan belt. If you're seeing a leak in this area it is a pretty good chance that the pump is bad and needs replaced.

MY TRUCK IS LEAKING SOMETIMES COOLANT, COULD IT BE A HOSE OR THE WATER PUMP?

Check the radiator and hoses for leaks. Also, look at the water pump and see if any coolant is leaking out of the vent or "weep" hole. If coolant is leaking from the weep hole, the water pump is defective and will need replaced. When checking hoses, look for cracks and leaks, especially around the hose clamps. Hope this helped and best wishes.

No, what you're seeing is the weep hole leaking on the water pump. This is the warning sign that the water pump is worn out. Don't use any stop leak or anything to attempt to stop it. You'll be waisting your time. You'll have to replace water pump at this point.
