The cruise control on my 1993 Yukon is hard to engage and sometimes jumps right back out after it does engage. Can you give a reason for it doing that?

There are a few things that can cause it. One which may sound stupid is actually valid on a lot of cars - if you have a burned out brake light bulb, some cars will not allow the cruise to be set. Make sure all of your bulbs are working right.

You could also have a failure of the cruise control buttons. On my Audi, the cruise control is on a stalk on the column, and is known to overheat and fail. A search of the internet should reveal if this is a known issue on your model year Yukon. Search "cruise control failure Yukon" and see if something comes up - chances are there is information out there that will tell you if this is something that is typical of your vehicle.

2011. Why has cruise control failed?

cruise controls are controlled by several units
VSS or road speed sensor, clutch and brake sensors , engine speed (tacho) and the on/off switch
cruise controls will disengage automatically if the road speed is too slow ( higher for manuals than autos ) so if the road speed is below around 20mph it may not engage at all as the VSS says it is too slow for the engine rpms
check all sensors for adjustment

Cruise control engages sometimes

Hi. Sorry but the question isn't clear. I know that the cruise control can be repaired. But what type of diagnostic information are you looking for? To find the source of the failure my shop would run diagnostics. Possible failures would include faulty blake light switch, worn or dirty cruise control switch, broken clock spring or issue with power or ground. Please write back and let me know what you are looking for. I will be more than happy to help.

1993 gmc suburban rpms jump without acceleration, hard shift from 1st to 2nd

Sounds like a vacuum leak probably at the modulator valve on or close to the transmission.

1998 Ford Explorer with Auto 4WD wants to shift into 4WD while accelerating on dry pavement, but then shifts back to 2WD when up to cruising speed. Tires are not breaking loose or slipping. Also what...

you are right, there is no option to only run an actual 2 wd, and yes it will engage into 4 wheel under a acceleration, but it shoulnt engage under a normal take off but if you step on it it will engage. I"m getting to the point of selling this truck for this reason among many others, my 2003 yukon xl 4x4 doesn't have half the garbage and engineering idiocy this truck has. And listening and reading all these troubles i can't take it anymore. I also have some issues with mine but i'm not gonna put anymore time and money into this.

When I engage the cruise control is holds speed but rmp surges periodically around 2-300 rpm.

It could be your transmission trying to find the right gear it will jump around on diffrent road surfaces and going up hills/down hills. It is usaully noticable on cruise because it is at a constant speed and your thinking why would it need to shift. Sometimes it doesnt even really shift the gear its so inbetween it just jumps back really fast.

2007 GMC Yukon Cruise Control will not engage. Brake lights are working properly. Cruise control light is on but indicator on dash does not appear.

Check the speed sensor. Look up the location at autozone .com or google. It is either near the tranny or at the passenger side wheel. The speed sensor is almost always connected to cruise control problems.
