Manual Transmition, While driving the clutch pedal went right to the floo and stayed down. I lifted the pedal with my foot and with a light touch i pushed down on the pedal and it it began a grinding sound as if it was a part hitting the flywheel. I didn't attempt to force the pedal, I shut the engine down. With the engine turned off I wasn't able to depress the pedal. Some thing internal broke. This is a hydrolic clutch I'm told, Can anyone explain what might have happened?

The throw out bearing has flew apart it is the bearing that sits against the clutch forks and pushes them open to disengage the clutch from the pressure plate.

The slave cylinder on the trans works just like a brake cylinder, when fluid pressure is applied it flows into the cylinder and pushes against a clutch fork which engages a throw out bearing against the clutch pressure plate fingers. a couple things could have happened. I think your trans is fine but im sure the clutch fork or the pressure plate broke. I'm sorry but the trans is gonna have to be pulled. best wishes

Sounds like a loose brake caliper mate when driving along no sound so you are obviously not touching the brakes hope this helps

I have a Toyota Fielder car,but I face a challenge each time I stop up hill and want to drive forward, the vehicle rolls backwards despite being in D-drive. What should I be doing to avoid this?

This is when you need to let the clutch out just enough to stop the backwards roll when you take your foot off the brake, then you can move to the gas pedal and when pressing the gas pedal you can release the clutch all the way to get moving. IT is a matter of practice and timing..

I'm having problems with a 91 Chevy Cheyenne with manual transmition not starting

Check the clutch start switch above the clutch pedal , look up under dash . Yellow wire going in, purple coming out ! Yellow should have battery voltage with key in start position. The purple should have battery voltage with the key in the start position with the clutch pedal pressed down .

Mercedes sprinter 216 manual gearbox sound when not presing cluch pedal, goes away when you press the cluch pedal.

it seems that the clutch is not aligned or not setup right to it's correct default mode. when you lift the foot off the clutch it goes into default and away from the gears. this could be an early sign off needing a new clutch and pressure plate. good luck.

Clutch will not engage when depressed

there could be one of a few issues here.
1 the thrust bearing may have gone which sites on the clutch plate prongs and the actuator arm.
if you have somebody who can depress the pedal while you go under and have a look at whats going on.
2 as this is a hydrolic assisted clutch there may be air got into the system which may show resistance but there is not enough pressure to push the clutch plates so the stay engaged.
when was the clutch fluid last replaced? as same as break fluid is will absorb moisture over time and reduce is effectiveness.
3. the clutch plates may have overheated last time round and welded together so they will not come apart and will have to be replaced.
do you drive with your foot covering the clutch pedal? this style of driving can cause the clutch to overheat as their is never full pressure during driving always leave your feet away from the clutch pedal once you have changed gear.

Cruise control will not engage

Hi, May be worth checking the switch at the brake pedal could just be that its sticking slightly, if you try the cruise control out again just flick foot under brake pedal and lift it up to make sure not holding any pressure on switch.

Clutch

the acuating cylinder for the clutch needs to be replaced. this explains why you ahve no resistance when you deprress the clutch peddle. when adjusted right you should have no more than 1-1 1/2 inches of free play in the clutch peddle. and since the car will be in gear with out the clutch being pressed tells me that the clutch itself is good. please rate this

I have a 2001 Focus station wagon. the cruise control will not engage. And the high beams will not stay on (I can flick them, but they won't stay). Are these loose switches of some sort, that I could...

I would check the easy things first. That is the brake switch and the clutch switch (manual trans). Drive down the road and pull the brake pedal up with your foot and then try to set the cruise (same with the clutch pedal). Also the cruise requires that the brake light bulbs be in working order (and that there are no LED brake lights). Check fuse numbers 53 54 and 59.
The high beam problem might be related to the cruise issue, but I can't think of a reason why.
