Back off the fuel mixture and clean out any breathers and air filters also check that the choke is not stuck. If its burning oil you have 3 choices 1. fit new engine 2. get the old one rebuilt 3. Try using very thick oil (wont help starting in cold weather but might just stop it long enough to pass) also get tested when engine is not so hot (oil thins down and burns quicker in hot engine) The right way is to get it fixed and I don't condone any other methods of using thick oil or removing the air cleaner element to cheat the test. Hope I have helped you in a small way.

Why can't I pass smog check engine light won't come on

The smog check requires a visual inspection of your check engine light. It has to come on for a bulb check at startup to make sure it's working. But, the light must go out after starting the engine(it cannot stay on after the engine starts during a smog check). If the check engine light fails either of these two tests, the vehicle will fail the smog check inspection.
You need to have the cause of your inoperative check engine light diagnosed and repaired.

Why does my car **** and hesitate and has failed smog 2X is now a gross polluter ?

Because you failed to have a shop look at the data
& make the required repairs & get caught up on preventative
maintenance BEFORE you went to inspection

If you were in fact at a shop, for any reason, then they have no idea
how to test vehicle

Have you considered the motor is shot & you have leaking valves?

Passing smog

code p 1340 refers to crank position sensor and camshaft position sensor signals out of sequence
the results of the pretest smog test at 2400 rpm suggest that the cam advance solenoid or system is failing
that will alter the sequence of the signals resulting in the code and failing of the smog test
as to answer you question , I am not convinced at this point but I consider the cam advance system to be at fault and would be testing in that area

97 CAVALIER (Z24) FAILED SMOG TEST

No the water pump will not affect the smog test. You probably failed the idle?
Usually with this age of vehicle you can replace the o2 (oxygen) sensor and it will pass. Cleaning the MAF if it has one cant hurt either if you do it right.

Failed smog because of leak in fuel line

I hazzard a guess but I would replace the gas filler cap. (the thing you take off when you put gas in the car)After all it is a pressure balanced situation.

Failed smog

We had to have the calatic converter replaced. We did this after doing an oil change, air filter change, and new spark plugs and still hadn't passed smog. After changing the calatic converter it passed smog with scores of 25.
