1993 Chevrolet K1500 Logo
Anonymous Posted on Feb 02, 2011

Alrighty. I've asked this a few times before, I have more info now. CHEVY 350 K1500. 1993. Replaced intake gaskets, (bad oil leak) dropped a small amount of coolant in with oil while doing so. Changed oil before starting truck. Since then the pressure will read fine while cold, but as the truck warms up, the pressure drops, eventually all the way to zero, and will stall the truck at idle. I've replaced Sending Unit, Oil Pump, Oil Screen, Cam Bearings, Mains/Rods Bearings. and about 5 oil changes. Mechanical gauge reads about 40 psi at idle when cold, 15 when warm. While shifting into reverse it drops to about 11, and drive drops to 13psi. The levels seem alright, but the gauge still acts as described. When I switch gears, especially into reverse, the ropm will drop off to about 150-200, the truck barely staying running, then slowly fluctuates up to about 600. I'm stuck.. Anybody.. with ANY pointers at all? :(

How did you clean the gasket off of the head? if you used a sanding disc the grit will eat up the bearings. are you reading pressure with a mechanical gauge? you have replaced all bearings??

6 psi @ 1000 RPM
18 psi @ 2000 RPM
24 psi @ 4000 RPM
this is chevrolet specs on oil pressure in your truck so you are within the range.

describe your idle problem more and i will try and help you with that

we used a a small wire brush on a drill, and layed paper towel out to try collecting everything that fell, not a sanding disc. Yes, I am reading the levels with a mechanical gauge, and I've replaced Cams, Mains, and Rods. So yes, pretty well all bearings.

The specs are okay, but I've recently installed a high output/high volume oil pump, so specs shouldn't be that low, should they?

I may have over-tourqued my valves when I placed them back in, so that might be the idle problem.. either that or has to do with the oil pressure problem that still isn't fixed.

did you plastigauge the bearings when installing? you have too much clearance on mains or you damaged a cam bearing when installing. what kind of oil filter are you running? I have seen cheap filters cause oil pressure problems before

Have oil in my coolant 1972 chevy monte carlo 350 seems to run fine did a compression check everything is fine with that could it be a bad intake gasket or just a very dirty coolant system just bought

The only way for oil to get into the coolant is for some type of leak to happen. As stated above, could be bad block, may be bad head gaskets, but the only way to really find out will be to remove the heads and look for signs of leaks. Regardless of the compression test results, you need to find out how the coolant is getting polluted with oil and resolve it.

My 2008 Chevy uplander engine light on and the code shows for cam shaft sensor and intake manifold what I do

The intake code means its leaking from the intake, bad gaskets, or a vacuum leak. check for bad gaskets on intake manifold. You can tell by putting a bit of oil around the maifold. if it is leaking the engine will flair up. To check this, External leak-- Coolant seeps through the broken intake manifold gasket to the outside of the engine. If its bad enough you will see coolant dripping from gasket. Coolant seeps through the damaged gasket to the inside of the engine, mixing with motor oil. If you suspect an internal leak, check your oil dipstick. Or if you have a substance under oil filler cap that looks like a milkshake, Oil is mixing with coolant. this means intake gaskets are bad, Now for the camshaft sensor, If you have a manifold leak. this could be giving you a false camshaft reading! Because, If sensor is bad vehicle will not start unless theres a wire problem. Symtoms of a bad sensor are--- engine sputtering, poor acceleration, stalling/inability to start. HopeI helped you out! Good-Day!

My 1989 350 suburban show the oil pressure maxed above 60 on the gauge. this occurred at the same time as a leak occurred in the intake manifold releasing a small amount of water into the oil. I have...

sometimes you can get a little water trapped. you can try removing the sending unit and cleaning it. you will probably have to replace the unit. the pressure is acceptable though as long as youre not pourong oil out through the seals.

I need to replace the rear main seal on my 95 chevy pickup with a 350. do i need to drop the tranny?

Yes, either pull the trans or pull the engine. No way to get in there with out having one of the two out!
FYI it's very rare for a rear main on that engine to leak, Most all of the time it's the oil pan gasket or coming from higher up like a valve cover or the intake gaskets!

Water in oil

Hello, it seems that you have intake gaskets leaking. I'll bet you have the vortec 350. This is a common problem with the vortec, Gm uses plastic intake gaskets and they blow out over time usually to the externally but yours is internally. It is a pretty easy fix for the average mechanic to do. Thank you
