My 94 XJ6 shifts hard only in range of shifting from 30mph to 32mph. that one gear is slaming when it changes to that gear. Sometimes it shifts smooth and other times it slams. Do i need a rebuild? good fluid level-just changed fluid and filter and had metal debris. Still shifts hard sometimes. What do I do and what price range is the repair for this problem?

you meant does not crank, (starting is next after cranking it first)
the gear shift works in park or neutral , you operator guide states that.
yes that means the PRNDL switch in or on the gear box is bad.
or wires to it corroded pins or damaged,

also called range switch.
or TRS , tranny range switch,
easy no? you found the hard proof and told it.
when bad switch or bad wires to it.

find a tranny man,
any ASE shop works
ask em.' to CHeck it out.

It can be the issue with Transmission or problem with gear shift assembly.The system has to be inspected and tested.----------

Change the xmission fluid and filter. If that doesnt fix it, it could be the solenids, the soleniod pack, what evey they call it on a Jag.

Did you ever get that problem diagnosed? My 2008 Jeep GC recently and frequently gets stuck and does not accelerate past 1st gear. We have to pull over put it into park then shift into D-rive again. Then the transmission accelerates prperly. The only way we knew this was the big trucks on my job site have to do the same thing. A temporary resolve. Hoping it's not the transmission slipping and needing repair.

That code is for an encoder motor(shift motor) on the transfer case.Not difficult to change but expensive to buy(200 dollars).Check all the wires and make sure none are nicked and that everything is plugged up good before replacing.You will need to remove front drive shaft to get the encoder motor off the transfer case.The hard shifts are due to a limp condition set by the code being stored.

best bet is call scrap yard they are fairly decent priced unless you want new

check your tranny fluid and filter. you may have a clog some where or could be low on tranny fluid.

you can get the part you want from international truck dealer they are a warehouse for allison. it is gear selector switch it will cost you around $55.00

the car has a computer that learns it's shift pattern.disconnect the battery for a while and it should enable it to relearn shift patterns.
