I own a 2005 Scion Xa with 69000 miles Texas state inspections requires that the vehicle pass emission test as part of the inspection It failed inspection because there were 4 trouble codes stored p0441 p0442 p0446 and p0456 but the check engine light never came on The check engine light does not come on when you first turn the key on or when you start the car or while the care is running What is the cause for the trouble codes and why is the check engine light not working

Apart from being a 30 year old gas guzzler with 500,000 miles on it :>D
There are three situations where emissions requirements may temporarily be extended or waived:
Emissions Extension - for vehicles that are temporarily located out-of-state
Hardship Waiver - for vehicles that have recently failed an emissions test and the owner is unable to obtain necessary repairs due to a financial hardship
Repair Waiver - for vehicles that have failed an emissions test after undergoing emissions-related repairs.
It's not the battery itself that's the issue. When you disconnected the battery to replace it, you cleared all the data from the computer. The computer then runs a self test of all systems to determine that they are functioning properly. There are several systems to be tested, and until they pass the test, each system is classified 'not ready'. Some system tests are done very quickly, with only one 'drive cycle', and they become 'ready'. Some systems require multiple drive cycles, and take longer. For some vehicles, specific criteria have to be met. On my vehicle, before the vapor recovery system can be tested, the fuel tank has to be between 1/4 and 3/4 full.
Some testing stations (depending on state) require all systems to be 'ready'. Some require a specific number to be 'ready', e.g., seven of nine. Find out what the requirements are, and which systems still need to complete testing, then check with a dealer for your make/model to see what is required to complete testing for that (those) systems.
They should not need to disconnect anything on a 2001 to run any emission equipment test. The only thing they remove is the gas cap (to check it for leaks). Did they fail to put the gas cap back on straight?
Every vehicle is required for emissions testing. I strongly suggest that you have the car conditioned before proceeding. By doing so you'll surely pass it.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
The check engine light means that something is going wrong with the engine, electric, or emissions part of your vehicle. it will need to be hooked to a scanner to find out what the trouble codes are. Usually Autozone will scan and give you the codes for free. get them and post them here and i will try to help you with the diagnostics
First the fault codes, U110C is No Fuel Level Bus Message U0155 is No Cluster Bus Message. Unfortunatly you have to be able to communicate with the instrument cluster with your scanner to diagnoise and I do not think an aftermarket scanner can do this.
usually 100,000 miles , some are 70,000 miles. just call your local toyota dealer parts or service dept. , or look in your owners manual under the warranty section of your manual.
