Question about Chevrolet Equinox

Recently i discover that my check engine light came on while driving ,so i check the gas cap and notice that the cap was not thightly close ,i closed the tighter but the light still stayed on,what could be the problem?

    gas cap was loose,got new one,then engine light came on.been on a week. tried fill up tank with better gas,still light on.

If the problem was the gas cap It will take a while before the light goes out on it's own. The computer only runs it's test when conditions are right. And it has to pass at least twice before it request the light to turn off. If the light does not go out in a week or two you have another concern.

it can do on some models they have a sensor for the fuel vapor, if the cap is off it will inform you there is a fault. having the cap off will do this fault, on filler cap it will say tight close cap 3 clicks check.

The check engine light is commonly activated by a loose gas cap, regardless of vehicle make or model. Having said that, it could also be a more significant issue. You may want to err on the side of caution and schedule a maintenance.

If it's come on recently (especially if you noticed it shortly after refueling) and you don't notice any difference in the way the vehicle has been starting, handling, or otherwise operating, you can try to unscrew the gas cap, screw it back on based on the vehicle user manual or instructions printed directly on the cap (i.e. turn until three clicks, turn until hand tight), and drive the vehicle around for a few days. The light usually won't deactivate immediately after correcting the problem. You'll have to drive it around for a couple of days to a week in order for the check engine light to go away.

I'm not sure what you mean by "kick". But the gas cap light will not affect the performance of the engine or transmission.
I would recommend having the computer scanned for trouble codes next.
The gas cap light means the computer has found a vac leak in the venting system for the gas tank and it could be allowing fumes into the air. The most common reason is the gas cap has been left off or is not tight. But if you have replaced it the problem is elsewhere in the venting system. The trouble code stored for the check engine light would point a mechanic in the direction of the actual problem.

Unfortunatly that could be a myraid of problems. Try checking the gas cap for thightness. Also go to a auto parts store and them them check your car on their Sensor.

Engine check light is on what i can i do
Most of the time Check engine light will come due to Gas and gas cap issues. If you ran out of gas and gas lost pressure it will bring the light on. Make sure to fill take with premium (91 octane) gas and make sure gas cap is closed completely. loose gas cap will cause the engine light to come on. If after doing this you still get the engine light warning, take to authorized mercedez deal for code check.

Why check engine light come on mostly after refuiling after a long drive ?
Because your vehicle is a 2008 I feel it shouldn't be anything to pressing but still take some precautions.

What alot of people don't know is sometimes if the gas cap is not put on tight enough a little air might get in or your gas pump might have to work a little harder because it can't get full vacuum pressure with the cap slightly open. these are not major issues.

these are reasons why your check engine light comes on. It happened to my 2005 Buick Rendezvou We had the check engine light on for a week. The car never shuttered, stalled, delayed starts it ran perfectly fine. I took it in to check engine light their computer showed that it was the EVAP system which is the heating and cooling system I would have to get it checked for leaks or do a static check for leaks.

This didn't look good but then one day I had done some work for a friend told him of my problem he told me it could be my gas cap. The next day I asked my wife if the gas cap was working on vehicle it actually was broke I replaced gas cap and the check engine light came off.

Now with this story (which is true) don't assume every problem could be this. But if you are not noticing any stalls, delayed starts, shuttering anything out of the ordinary check the cap at times to make sure it is closed.

If you keep on having light on and replaced cap or made sure was securely on then take and get it checked out.

Check engine light went on
More than likely, it is the factory preset service interval indicator. You can usually take the car to a parts store that does electrical testing and they will tell you if it is a legitimate trouble code or just reset the service indicator for you.

Engine light on
Sometimes if the gas cap is open while the car runs, the Check Engine Light turns on. This is common and happens on many vehicles. Try unplugging the negative part of your battery, let it sit for 10 minutes, then plug it back in and start the vehicle up. Most of the time the check engine light will disappear. If it persists, you might have to get a mechanic to clear the code and settle your check engine light.

You can disconnect the negative cable of the battery for a couple of minutes (but you will lose radio settings and possibly others that the car will relearn), or you can go to an auto parts store such as Advance Auto or Pep Boys and they have a free scanner service to diagnose problems that should be able to reset the light. Mine does.

An easy fix, if the check engine light is on find an Auto Advance, they can clear the code for you. Any auto parts store may be able to as well, Auto Zone is another one that may be able to help.

My chevy equinox 2010 all of a sudden when I try to reverse it doesnt do anything except lock up so we have to manually do something with the linkage which moves the gears manuellythen it will start what is this problem called so i can get someone to fix it but it would really help to know what it is called please if someone could let me know what this problem would be called .this is are only vehicle so it would be awesome to know what this is called
