I just bought a 1988 chevy k/1500 4-wd truck. the temp guae volt meter oil pressure guage in the cluster all worked the rest did not. I found a replacement at a local scrap yard. now the temp volt and oil pressure still work . was able to fix the shift indactor as it is a clip on mech. the gas guage still is inop. but it shows 1/4 tank with a full tank as the original did . leds me to belive that thats the sending unit. The speedometer still does nor work but on the orginal neither did the odometer or the trip meter. With the replacement the odometer and the trip meter work but the speedomerter still does not . So much for the back ground and heres the question. With the cluster switch swap and the odometer and trip mketer starting to work could it still be a speed sensor porblem or did i just happen to get a second clustor in a row with a broke speedometer. i am a mech. newby so please be kind :) any help welcome.

First we will start will the fuel gauge most likely you are correct chevys and 1995 and older jeep wranglers had this problem the sending units failed very commonly. you could have possibly gotton another bad cluster but most likely the speed sensor has worn out. it has a plastic gear being turned by a metal gear and is located near the tail of the transmission. hope this helps

My oil pressure guage spiked to 80 on my 06 Chevy Silverado 1500 why did this happen and how do I fix it?

it is either the oil sender or the cluster gone out. i have seen both with the factory scan tool you can do a gauge sweep test to see if gauges are functioning correctly. the oil sender would be the cheapest thing to try. it is located at back of engine in valley by firewall
