Yes it could but i would check your fuses i would also check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail also check your fuel filter before you go as far as changing fuel pump i believe that your pump is in the fuel tank

My 99 Windstar ran out of gas. Changed fuses 5&207; checked fuel injector. Added 2 gallons gas, turned key to "on" 3x's. STILL NOT STARTING!!

although rare it is possible to destroy the fuel pump by running tank to m/t , a quick check to see if this is the case is to sit in car with door open , hold your foot on door jam switch (stops chime) and turn key to run (not start) once or twice in a row , if your pump is still working , you will hear fuel injectors prime , (elect motor runs for three seconds ) you may have to listen carefully and repeat test several times to hear it (quiet place helps !!) if you don't hear the pump prime !! and you ck/replaced the fuel pump fuse already , it will need replaced (its inside fuel tank !!)

When i turn the key the engine cranks over but does not start, if i continue to crank it for a minute or two then it will eventually start and drive just fine. any ideas?

This sounds like a fuel system priming issue. When you first turn the key to the ON position (not cranking yet), you should hear a three-to-five second buzzing noise. This is the fuel pump running to pressurize the fuel system for cranking. This is controlled by the PCM and is relay activated. Once the vehicle starts and oil pressure rises, then the fuel pump is activated by the PCM via a different relay. If you can't start at first, what is probably happening is that the prime is not occurring and you have to crank it until the PCM sees oil pressure and then fires off the fuel pump. It could be PCM wiring or a bad fuel pump prime relay.

Cranks, will not start

Sounds like a bad fuel pump. Check the schrader valve for fuel, or check fuel pressure. Listen and hear if the pump is turning on when priming the ignition.

Fuel filter

Remove new filter, soak it in clean fuel and re-install. Kinda like priming the pump also could be bad f/p relay..Do you hear noise from pump when you turn the key to on position?

No fuel up to injecter pump truck just stalled

Did you check for fuel pressure on the line from the tank while you had the filter off? Do you hear your fuel pump prime when you turn the ignition on? First I would listen for the hum of the fuel pump when you turn the key to the run position (not starting the engine) May have to get a helper and listen at the gas filler neck with the cap off. If you dont hear your fuel pump, check your fuses and relays. If the relay clicks when your helper turns the key on ( put your finger on the relay and ear down close to feel/hear the relay actuate)., and fuse is good, yet you do not hear the pump prime, I would say your fuel pump is shot.

If it is a diesel, check for fuel pressure coming off the direct drive pump hose while cranking the motor.

I think my fuel pump is bad . It acted like it ran out of gas , and now it want start. I can not hear fuel pump running when I turn the key on . Help

Hello and welcome to FixYa!
Try to loosen the bolt on the fuel rail then turn on the ignition but don't crank the engine. If the fuel doesn't flow then it's definitely a bad fuel pump which will surely require replacement.
Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Ok in order to pour gas in what i called the "carb" i have to take some sort of breather off. i have a 2000 chevy blazer 2wd cyl vortech is it the fuel pump gone bad or could it just be out of...

turn key on and listen for fuel pump in the tank, it should go on for a few seconds then turn off. if you cant hear it try to listen at the fill cap when someone else turns the key on. if you cant hear it , check the safety shutdown relay under hood, it shuts down fuel pump and ignition

I have a 1989 iroc camero that will not start.it has a throttle body carb and is a 305.the fuel pump works fine.the car will start if you prime it,but otherwise it wont fire at all.it has power on one wire...

Although you Say the Fuel Pump is Fine, What you Discribe is A NO FUEL Problem If it Starts When Priming and Does Not Without Prime this IS a Fuel Pump Problem NOTE: If you HEAR the Fuel Pump this only Indicates that the MOTOR that Drives the Fuel Pump Works , A Fuel Puessure Test Will Determine if your Fuel Pump In FACT DOES Work.
