My rear wiper works only intermittently, and today the wiper stopped working mid-stroke, and I'm hearing a tapping noise from the inside of the lift gate near the wiper. I pulled the wiper fuse, but it didn't stop. I pressed the washer button, which works, and THAT stopped the tapping sound. How do I resolve it without it draining my battery every day?!

Tried pulling the fuse for the washer fluid? Sounds like the wiper motor is failing or it doesn't have a good connection. Disconnect the battery at night to ensure you'll have enough power to crank it in the morning.

SOURCE: the rear lift gate will not open or will the window

if they are controled or usually opened electrically, then it is probably a fuse. Check your fuse panel

SOURCE: '88 blazer wipers do not work

Same thing happened to my '87 Chevy S-10 pickup, so it's probably the same part. The wiper motor froze, and because it's direct geared to the wipers, they don't move unless it does.

Remove the wiper motor, reposition the wipers to their resting position, then reinstall a new wiper motor.

SOURCE: Toyota 4runner gate window, wiper, and keyless entry not working

make sure the back window is all the way up then try the wiper, if it still does not work then it is a sensor for the rear window (about $30.00) if you installed it yourself

Wipers only work on slow intermittant

front or rear, guess front... gee?
you meant fails only on high and fails means dead, rigth, not slow on high or some other odd effects. like noise. chattering or ?
what does it do on high , i guess sits still.
the wipers can be slow. if the motor is weak.
fail to return
make noises. or jam.
Q1:" do the washers work

2004 WJ
there are 3 things, POWER< CONTROLLER and MOTOR.
the first question here, is this computer controlled (eg BCM)
answer: YES, the BCM does keep alive. (more later)
is there a relay?
answer yes.
the control has 10 position.. off 1....9
so intermattant 1 to 5 work, you never said that.
at pos. 6 is low, works.
at post 7 high its dead. it turns on the HIGH wiper relay in the PDC
so that is dead,
my guess. i use meters to tell me facts but if i hand to guess
it be the HIGH relay blown.
if not its the H tap pin on the motor bad.
or wires to same.
the wiper motor can be hot wired to test it. easy
pin 6 on the motor connector is hIGH./

if how ever the high starts the wiper moving and then dies
then the PCM keep alive feed is dead. or wiper on./off is dead.
but the other work, so id skip this.

try to say exactly what happens on high. (DEAD?)
OR MOVES AND STALLS.? O short strokes.?

It sounds like you have a faulty switch. I would recommend that you change the wiper control switch. In order to do this, yoyu will need to remove the steering column cover, and the steering wheel. Remember to disconnect the battery when you are performing any work in a car that has a SRS-safety restraint system.

Check fuse no. 11 (10A) in the driver's under dash fuse/relay box. I suspect it is blown. It provides power for the rear wiper, both washers, and the intermittent wiper function for front and rear. It probably blew when your rear wiper got stuck.
