I am in South Africa - Golf 5 2 FSI - done 95 000 km - since 90 000 km service I have had intermittant loss of power, usually in lower gears. Car still runs, as power loss lasts abouts 2 secs. Usually after this if I stop, engine will run roughly. Alpine VW in Pinetown have tested it and cannot find anything wrong. As I am female and use my car for long solo trips I am quite concerned this this could result in a full blown breakdown in an isolated area.

SOURCE: LOSS OF POWER

number of things
1 fuel injectors
2 worn throttle body
3 inside gas tank sending unit filter needs replaced
4 a/c compressor failing
5 replace air filter
6 depending on mileage of vehicle worn cam, bearings oil rings
7 oil and water mixing together (oil will look like chocolate milk on dipstick if this happens
8 not enough air from the electric fan in front of vehicle (hook constant power and a switch with power key off)
9 wrong fuel type (maybe you car requires premium)
10 alternator wareing out and makeing a slow drop in power
11 binding brakes or emergency brake line binding
12 worn sparks plugs wires and electrical unit that houses this
13 worn capacitor looks like a little tear can with power points on it

this is just basic diagnosing without being there to see the vehicle in person these are the things right off the top of my head that i can help diagnose right now
some of these things wont show on a diagnostic cause there more mechanical and sensors wear with mechanical
hope this helped you in your quest

SOURCE: engine service warning lights

Hi,
You will need "VAG diagnostic software" - (google it) on a laptop and a £15 VAGCOM interface cable if you want to do it yourself.
Cheers, D.

The flashing is telling you that the engine is mis-firing, the dealer will run a test to determine the cylinder that is mis-firing, chances are it is something simple

Golf FSI 2.0 (2005 Model) Automatic golf. The Car stats Jerking when changing gears especially from second to third gear whats the problem?

You may need a tune up . When was the last time you changed plug wires and had a decent tune up that will cause a vehicle to jerk when reaching higher gears the more strain on the engine the more it will jerk!!!

VW Polo Classic, fuel efficiency problem

Has the car been serviced recently?
If not I would suggest getting it done. Not sure if you have diesel or petrol, but oil can thicken causing more load on the motor and airfilters get blocked and can cause a rich fuel mixture.

If petrol you can take out the plugs to check if they are a light brown colour, if very dark or black you need to check and adjust carb/injection settings/filter.Need to know what engine it is really.

Jetta V5 125 kw hesitation problems (2002 model)

Hi Dave

Have you checked your sparkplug cables that run from the coils to the sparkplugs. Had a simular problem and it was the cables. Park in a garage, pop the bonnette and check if there is any loss of spark at the spark plugs.

Hope this helps.
