Gas tank will not switch and gas runs out of fuel cap! Fuel gauge shows always full on front tank, goes down quickly rear tank gauge

If the gas gauge of your 2007 Dodge Nitro R/T always shows a full reading, there could be a few possible causes for this issue:

Gas as in gasoline or gas as in LPG gas? If its petrol, the fuel sender may be out of adjustment. (Usually means a new sender) If its LPG, the fuel stations are set to automatically shut off at 80% full. The gas tank will never actually be full to the brim but the gauge should be showing full if the gas nozzle keeps shutting off. Have a look on the LPG tank itself, they have a little gauge on them which shows how full it is. I have 2 tanks on my car , when "full" or when the pump shuts down, the tank gauges show just under full but the gauge on the cars dash shows full (2005 BA Ford)

replace front fuel pump because gauge is made into fuel pump and not serviceable. Or poor boy way of getting by would be fill front tank with gas reset mileage drive normal for a day. refill again with gas note gallons used and mileage driven for average miles per gallon. front tank should be around 17 gallons multiply by mile per gallon you figured

You probably have a bad fuel pump in the front tank. There are other possibilities as well. I have replaced tank switches for this reason also. You need to check for power and ground at the front tank when the switch is in the front tank position and the ignition switch is turned on.

At the wiring connector that goes up to the tank, (on the frame rail next to the tank) the power wire is the RED wire and the ground wire is the ORANGE wire. (The other wires are for your fuel gauge.)

The fuel pump relay will supply voltage to the RED wire for only about 2 or 3 seconds (to prime the fuel rail) when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, so you will need a helper to check this.

If there is no power, then you should suspect the switch. However, check for power at the switch to verify that it is the switch and not a broken wire between the switch and the tank connector.

If power and ground are both present at the tank connector, replace the front fuel pump.

Replace the fuel level sensor, in fuel tank

the gas is regulated from the switching valve you control off the dash. Check the valve to hear it switch
have a friend help you do this. it will be located under the truck between the two tanks. You may have a faultly valve or switch rattling inside changing the tanks setting also while driving which will be hard to tell

Fuel levels are equaled in the tanks via a frame mounted transfer pump that transfers fuel from the rear tank to the front tank where the main pump is. Your transfer pump needs replaced, and should run about 60 bucks. Should find the pump mounted to the frame between tanks.

there is a fuel senor inside of the tank and it could very well be the problem

A FORD EQUIPED WITH DUAL TANKS THIS YEAR MODEL HAS CHECK VALVES IN THE FUEL PUMPS .THE FUEL RUNS FROM THE REAR TANK WHEN IT IS POWERED ON TO A TEE AND INTO THE SAME LINE AS THE FRONT PUMP . THE PROBLEM IS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE FRONT FUEL PUMP THERE IS A CHECK VALVE ON THE FOOT AND IT IS NOT WORKING.WHILE THE TRUCK IS RUNNING WITH THE REAR FUEL PUMP ON IT IS PUMPING FUEL INTO THE FRONT TANK . IT WILL RUN OUT OF THE NECK WHEN IT IS FULL.THE FIX IS SIMPLE REPLACE THE FRONT FUEL PUMP. THEY DONT MAKE A CHECK VALVE REPLACEMENT I CHECKED I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU.

Have the same problem, its the switch valve, not sure how to fix it yet. But i can tell you thats what it is.
