The emergency brake warning light won't turn off. Please help

i don't know. on my Ford, it canceled speed control
[speed setting] and turned on both brake lights plus the brake safety light at rear window. emergency brake
warning light came on dash when brake fluid was low and when parking brake was on. owners manual my help.

Sharon, Check to make sure emergency brake is not on and fully released, try not to drive your vehicle if the red brake warning light is on. Could have air in the system from a small crack in brake line, faulty master cylinder, faulty caliper etc. Have a good tech. check braking system, diagnose and estimate repair.

What brake are you talking about? The emergency brake or the brake pedal. Warning lights only come on when 1, there is a leak ing the system while driving and you loose pressure, 2. upon starting the vehicle as a bulb check, 3. When you apply the emergency brake. Have the brake switch on the pedal and emergency brake checked also check the bulb. If the bulb lit upon startup, it is probably the switch. Depending on the year make and model, if the parking brake pedal is up, the switch could be faulty. The brake warning light may also be used to warn of low brake fluid in the master cylinder.

Offhand, the brake light warning on most dashboards would indicate that the hand/emergency brake is engaged. If even when the hand/emergency brake is disengaged or is in normal position and the light is still lit, it could indicate that:

• the brake fluid in the reservoir is below minimum level;
• and possibly the brake shoes/pads need replacement.
