It mean that the PCM received a bad reading from one of the sensors
most common fix would be
Either a bad flash in the PCM or a bad PCM or a bad TPS
go to the dealer and have them fix it
only the dealer can flash your PCM
also have them check the throttle body
and be cairful when they get that code they have a tendency to just stall out

I do not know about a Jag. But the "fail safe engine mode " on my GMC means the Engine Controll Computer has quit working.

My 06 expedititon just had the throttle body replaced at 52,000 miles, car would go into safe mode but you couldn't drive it.. always on the freeway - that is just really safe! had to park it... kill it and restart it, to be able to drive!

i had this problem last week and i changed my oxygen sensor under the engine not the one on the side see what number sensor does the diagnostic give no1 is side of engine and no.2 is under engine
