I have a 1995 Ford 250 pick up. Engine 460 V8. I am trying to find out how to hook up the wire to the electronic system for an RPM gauge. The older cars use to hook up to the coil, but the F250 has electronic ignition and I do not know how to hook up the wire. I have not bought an RPM gauge yet because I do not know what to buy. Sounds like your fan blade clutch has seized up. This causes the fan to run @ engine speed @ all times. If thats not it I'll need more information

The guage is bad or the wiring going to it....there is no car made that will idle at 250...most idle at 700 rpm and most turn 2000 at 60 mph

you should use the sending unit that is for the VEHICLE and the tach hooks to the negative side of the coil.

you need to check fuel preasure and change your fuel filter

Since the distributor is in the front on the 460 and you replaced the water pump check the connection plug coming from the distributor. If you disconnected it when removing the water pump you may not have made the connection tight enough to complete the connection. Look for pinched wires also. And your engine does not have points. You have a breakerless ignition system in the distributor. The air gap should be set at 8 thousands of an inch. Check the gap. Good luck.
