My 96 Oldsmobile Delta 88 has had issues with a fuel leak for sesveral monthes. Just recently it's been having issues with power loss with driving, not starting right away, or reving the engine upon ignition without touching the accelorator. We fixed the fuel leak and while it's driving at a steady pace it runs fine, but when I start it, it still has issues igniting and randomly shutting off when idle. Is this a fuel line issue ( which has started leaking again) or is it something more serious with the fuel injector or worse?

If still leaking will cause lower pressure which causes issues with engine fuel management such as idle -start -driveability and is dangerous

I'm sure you have installed a fuel pressure gauge and monitored the fuel pressure while the problem is occurring?Another diagnostic tool which is easy to do,is while the problem is occurring, unplug one sensor at a time beginning with the Mass Air Flow first,.if it uses one. Many times, not always, depending on the sensor,if the sensor is taken out of the picture as far as what the PCM is seeing, like unplugging the MAF,the PCM will substitute the missing sensor output with a generic value that will allow the engine to at least run,and if unplugging for example the MAF,the engine idle speed returns to normal, you know you're onto the problem. You didn't mention if the engine ran ok other than the idle problem. As far as checking for vacuum leaks,i use something like brake cleaner or WD 40,more of a liquid, and it does sound like a vacuum leak.Plastic intake manifolds do develop nearly invisible cracks that open up more with heat.Revsisit the possibility. And as for the PCM,it is possible, but more likely a mechanical problem.Lastly, remove an O2 sensor or two before the catalytic convertor, run the engine and see if anything changes.Cheap way to verify the catalytic convertor is flowing and not restricting engine airflow,as i have seen bad cats cause misfire codes and strange problems.Good luck.

SOURCE: Engine Rattling

Try checking the heat shield on your exhaust system. You should have one over the manifold and one over your cat converter under the car.

SOURCE: power antenna on my oldsmobile 88 will not shut

Fault is within the power antenna unit. Needs replacement. If you dont mind the mast being up, it can be disconnected , in order to stop the motor running. Car washes will damage the mast in the event it stays up. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: engine check light is on

does the car buck on the highway when accelerating under a slight load?
i owned one of these exact cars,3.8 litre.
2 problems. one,the baffles braek in the gas tank, and if you run 1/4 tank or less it will stall in a turn.
mine it was a right turn.
2nd problem, the EGR valve was stuck and it would surge or "buck" on the freeway.
replaced the egr (exhaust gas return)valve and it ran like new.
if the egr valve is code 42,(i do not have the manual in front of me) you have found the problem
check the egr,it can cause the problems you have.

Recently bought '96 olds delta 88, slow starting after 1 week of driving, previous owenr replaced fuel filter, where is the location of the fuel filter?

Along the frame rail under the car you should see the fuel lines on the driver side. Along the line around the front driver door area there should be a metal barrel, this is the fuel filter.

Could be several issues that are common with GM cars :
  1. Bad MAP sensor
  2. Bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)
These are the most common areas that would cause the problem you have.
