Thinking you are getting poor gas milage,Your engine is running smooth,no misses,Engine runs smooth while accelerating up a hill, Still poor gas milage, Check your tire pressure. I have a 1999 Chevy Blazer 4x4, 4.3 Ltr. Auto, loaded. I have just over 154000 miles on it,I change my fluids every 5000 miles. Summer driving milage got real bad. I drive a Blazer hard. I tow a 16ft trailor usally loaded to the top with wood. Tires get hot in the summer, while in the winter, they stay mostly cool. Always check your air pressure. Most vehicals are equipted with radials now days, So if you think a tire looks low, check it, Usally they low. Usally in the winter months, nobody checks tire pressure. It really does make a difference. I went from 17.2 MPG to 19.5 MPG, while pulling the same trailor loaded with wood. I cut my own wood then stack it in my trailor to sell. I have Good Year Wranglers size: P235/75R/15 I just replace these with new ones. The old ones are going on my trailor. Counted milage on tires are 65000 Miles. Tires were rated at 40000 miles, Under normal use.
Might want to pull the computer codes to see which sensor or switch
is malfunctioning. The computer is in limp in mode to keep it running and get you home. The codes should point you in the right direction.
I would get berryman and sea foam and do an induction cleaning on the intake. It sounds like running low quality fuel may have caused the intake manifold to get gummed up causing low flow through the egr valve.
if you have'nt replaced those spark plugs and wires lately, you need to.and also, lucas fuel treatment, in my personal opinion,is the very best for unclogging fuel lined and injectors.it being below a 1999 model and your check engine light is on, you can have it coderead for free if you're near anautozone or advance automotive parts store. they will code read it and tell you why that check engine lights coming on.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com
Not sure where you live but if the gas you get has a higher amount of ethanol in it you will get worse gas milage. But there are many reasons that effect gas millage.
If you have the RT with the 5.7 hemi as stated I do not beleive you ever got 27 to 29 miles to the gallon. the best that car will do is 24 - 25 miles to the gallon and that is on a pefectly flat and straight road at about 60 miles an hour. As fas as the MDS the best way to tell (if you can't feel it change) is to use a tool such as the dashawk that monitors the engine stats. I disabled the MDS for several reasons and really so little to no change in gas milage. I do not beleive the MDS helps as much as people would like to think. I have added a lot of mods to my hemi, but still think that 14 - 18 mpg under normal driveing is good for this car
