I have a 2010 chevy HHR, I cannot cut the ignition off and take the key out, it runs till I undo the battery, How can I fix this, it seems to be a problem with these cars, but no recall.
Re: I have a 2010 chevy HHR, I cannot cut the ignition...
I had this problem and it was related to the transmission cut out switch. My elegant solution was to beat the transmission shifter with my hand until it unlocked. Has happened more than once!
I just had the problem this weekend. The way I shut the car off was to: (1) open the hood (2) remove the air hose (3) put my hand over the hose to stop the air flow and it shut off. I had to replace the ignition switch and now it is good as new.I just had the problem this weekend. There are guides in the ignition unit that might have fallen out of position, u need a specialist who does this to fix it for u, pliz dont force the key out. Its a few minutes job.
You are going to need to recalibrate the remote to the vehicle. As long as the remote works correctly which i think it should. It will actually tell you how in the owners manual. I am not current with the HHR as i have not worked on one yet. They must be reliable!
there are two situations that are close to what you describe.
First, is your key STUCK in the ignition? if so, there's a little panel under the steering column, open that, and feel round under there for the latch to release the key. I don't remember what the dealer SAID the issue was, but it was solved with one of many steering column replacements for a different problem.
If the key goes in and out, but won't turn the cylinder... you may have a bad cylinder, a ruined key(bent? run over by car? goobered up lands? plain worn out?) Or, your steering lock is engaged. If it's the first, that's a mechanic replacment(hopefully dealer covered). The second? get a new key. The third? Hold some tension on the steering wheel and turn the key.
Finally, if your battery is dead, or your solenoid is shot, the key won't turn/release either. Use the stuck key removal method, so you can lock your car while waiting on dealer repair.
First, if you have insurance, the repair should be covered under that. Insurance does not only cover "skin" damage to vehicle, but covers internal damage caused by accident. Have you contacted ins co? In the meantime, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to on...leave it on for about ten minutes and try it.
