Saturn SL2 Hello, I was just wondering what your fix action was for the Saturn SL2 that wouldn't start. I know the door locks, radio don't work, but my daughter doesn't have remote entry. Anyway, my daughters car has the same problem, did you get this fixed?

I had a similar problem on my 94 SL2. Turn the key…..Nothing.
Even worse, it was intermittent, the worst type to troubleshoot.

At first it was rare. Pulling out the key , putting it back in and turning usually worked.
Over time it got progressively worse and stubborn.

Then one day it wouldn’t start for anything.

My car has an alarm with a ‘starter kill’. My first thought, alarm malfunction. So I located the two wires (they can be any color) going from the alarm module to the steering column. They are usually labeled appropriately on the module. I used a small jumper wire (alligator clips) to short them at the alarm. If the alarm was the problem, this would fix it. It didn’t.

Time to take apart the steering column.

The key tool will be a 7 or 8mm socket. Take off the two piece steering column shroud to expose the wiring.

On the left side, directly opposite the ignition, you’ll see a piece of round plastic held on with two bolts. This is really the ignition switch.
Take out the bolts (again 7 or 8mm).
Take out the two plugs (blue and white) from behind it.
Take off the switch.

Plan A: (For most people)
Replace this. Bring it with you to the parts store to compare it.
Bring it home. Bolt it on. Plug it in. Turn the key.

I can’t tell you how much it was , since I used …

Plan B: (For the deservedly cocky)
I took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts.
They were burnt. I scraped them clean, re-assembled the switch and tested it.
Vroom..

If you need me to explain Plan B, use Plan A.

Hope this helps, let me know how it goes. Any other problems, click the ASK button.

For 2 days now, my 2002 Saturn SL2 door locks have given me trouble. When I open the doors by remote, only the driver's door opens. When I exit the car and press the close button on the remote, no doors...

It sounds like your Power Door Lock Relay is working intermintently. Bypass the relay and test the Power Door Locks with a jumper wire direct from the battery, if they work with no hesitation then it is a bad relay.

My saturn sl2 alarm starts to beep when I try to start the car and won't stop for about a minute. Car won't start. My power locks have been disabled(over a year now). It started acting strangely and...

This sounds somewhat similar to a problem I had with my 1999 Saturn SL2. There was "burning and arching" on the fusebox and it was replaced. The first few times my car would make an extra beep noise when locked or unlocked and I believe the radio/clock had to be reset. The problem got worse although sporadic. Eventually the car wouldn't start - not even making a clicking noise and a big variety of electrical components would not work or didn't sound right.

Help! I have 98 Saturn SL2 that was live one minute dead the next

Sounds exactly like my 1999 SL2 which had "burning and arching" in the fuse box. Car one day be fine the next I'd take it to the store, come back in 10 minutes and wouldn't start, no radio, no power windows, no keyless entry remote, no rear defrost and even locking doors from inside power buttons it sounded odd. This fixed the problem by replacing the fuse box.
