Can I fit a h4 bulb in my mercedes? - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

A friend has a Mercedes with a similar problem. We were sceptical when the local Merc dealer told us it was because one or more non-Merc bulbs had been fitted but sure enough after buying and fitting genuine Mercedes replacement bulbs and the light went out and stayed out.

probably a H1 bulb
H4 bulbs have 3 terminals high beam --low beam --and ground ( center terminal
H1 bulbs have just the 2 terminals --power in and ground

in older vehicles you put a 100- 125 watt H4 bulb (with relays ) as the reflector was metal and could stand the heat
modern cars use plastic reflectors so going over 65-85 H4 would probably melt the reflectors
Leds are a better option as they produce little heat but the installation is not straight forward as they need ballasts fitted to activate properly
I would have a talk with an auto electrician that knows how to fit the led lights and what is required.

you have a bulb not working or the wrong bulb ,it should be a 12v 21 watt and i wouldnt mind betting you have fitted a 12v 6 watt bulb which has the same fitting but a smaller head .

Veradas use a special two pronged bulb. I'm not sure if it is a two pronged h4 or a larger h7.
Switch you're high beam lights to the normal beams for the time being (assumeing they are working fine) then take it to mitsubishi for new bulbs

Which bulbs are you refering to?
Headlights? I went with Sylvania SilverStar H4 bulbs. I was really impressed with the brightness. The bad news... I seem to have to replace them more often; like, 1 or 2 per year.

Another alternative is to upgrade to the 2005-2006 headlamp assemblies. Rumor says they will fit. They use a different bulb.

yes hella makes a h4 bulb retrofit kit. It includes new housings the use a replaceable h4 bulb. then purchace a hid h4 kit and install. I got th hella kit from summit for around $50 and used xtratights kit its a direct plug in no cuttting needed

The wiring is different, if your Golf had headlights with H4 bulbs then changing to high beam turns dip off. The GTi has separate dip and high lights, on high beam dip stays on (all 4 bulbs on).

You may find it easier to remove the battery...or you may get chaffed hands....Reach down and remove the connector...it has snap clips on the sides.... Remove the plastic dust cover and then reach inside the housing and you'll find a spring wire clip which locks into a hook, release that and the bulb comes out.... Fit the new H4 bulb and make sure that the tabs fit the housing.... You'll notice that two are smaller than the third....This is how the bulb is pre-focused....
