Hello coffeyjoh791, first make sure the transmission isn't low on fluid, if you are certain that it isn't low on fluid you may be wise to have the fluid and filter changed in the transmission.

The second issue sounds like a neutral safety switch.
I don't know about the ticking but I know changing the filter and fluid
is the first thing to do when an auto trans has a problem plus cleaning
the pan. Another thing is get a automobile sound wand and get under
there and see if you can pinpoint the ticking.
find out which auto transmission you have in the vehicle ( ask an auto transmission specialist shop) and then get the transmission manual from a technical book shop that covers that make of box
Your dip stick tube is your fill tube for your transmission . Make sure your transmission oil is at opperating temp before servicing some instructions are written on the dip stick , Use a small funnel , Add a little at a time (cup). Use the proper fluid , check regularly
