Most cars dont have a voltage regulator the computer is the regulator you can damage the vehicle and burn up alternator/or computer
The reason for that is no1. the other vehicle cannot be running while boosting.this involves getting a voltage spike when the alternators meet down the line.something will give either your alt.or a main fuse or a digital dash goes blank.you don't get that from a boost pack .that is why they say to use a boost pack.tripple aaa says you do not boost from a winter sitting ,take to the dealer for charging.
The booster pack has a lower amperage ability and will not allow you to cross connect the jumper cables and possibly fry you electrical system. Simply saferand usually idiot proof
