P0700 - Transmission Control System Malfunction
Basically what that means is that a malfunction has been detected in the transmission and associated components. There is good news and bad news. The good news is it might be covered under warranty. You didn't say if your vehicle is still under warranty, be aware that you may still have warranty coverage on this since your car is just 3 years old. The bad news is that the P0700 code really means that there are transmission-specific codes that you can't access with a regular code reader. There is a part called a TCM - transmission control module that works in a similar way to your PCM. The TCM handles the transmission electrical "stuff" and it stores further transmission codes.

If you want to pursue the issue yourself, you'll need to get your hands on a higher end code reader, or take it to the dealer or a transmission shop to get the actual transmission trouble codes read. Personally we recommend you get a shop to read those codes for you. The other codes are communication codes, we recommend you clear those codes after you fix the P0700 code and see if they come back, they could be related to the "main" transmission issue. The other good news is the fix for this may just be a software update that the dealer can do.

P1685 - SKIM Invalid Key.
The engine controller has received an invalid key from the SKIM.You need to take it to the dealership so they can reprogram the key, Sentry key system.

Good luck.

Getting p1685 code on 2002 sebring

Well four digit codes are brand specific, which means they can have different meanings depending on the car.
According to my source, P1685 for Chrysler-Dodge is for a problem with the clutch switch, if it has a manual trans.

My 2002 pt cruiser died while I was driving first the oil light came on then it just died! I just had the oil changed 3 days prior to it dying some of the codes I received were 0340 1684 1685...

P0340 is cam position sensor. P1685 is for the key(has a chip in it) P1684 is battery has been disconnected. If the engine will still crank then codes P1684 & P1685 are probably old codes. So if the car will still crank, lets forget about those codes and focus on P0340 A bad cam position sensor will cause the engine to die and not allow it to start back up. Replace the cam position sensor and clear the code and the car should start up.

Car does not run ,I check the code ,it is P0700

Because it is not starting, you should replace the Crankshaft sensor (above the oil filter, back of the engine)-it will cause a P0700-I have a 99 SL2, 178,000 miles

DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
Translation: Transmission Control Module (TCM) Malfunction or Failure. P0700 Information Code The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM. This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes. So basically, the P0700 code is telling you to check the TCM for a transaxle DTC. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it. The dealer probably saw the code P0700 and went to the TCM and pulled out the code stored there telling them the Transmission Solenoid Assembly (TSA) is bad. This is a good example of understanding what the codes actually mean. If the manual you looked at said the TCM is bad and to replace the TCM when you see a P0700, then it is wrong.

I have a 04 pt cruiser with airbag light and chime intermittent fault code p1685

p1685,,"skim invalid key"
I have no idea what they are talking about, but that is the code.

DTC P1685 is Invalid SKIM Key. The Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) is part of the security system and kills the vehicle when a wrong key is used. There may be a problem with your key or the chip reader in the ignition switch. This is something the dealer will need to determine for sure. This code will also be set if someone actually tried to steal the vehicle.

My guesswould beto reset your PCM (unhook bat. and depress brake for 1 min), then try to start the car. If that doesn't work, I guess haul it into a dealership so they can run a diagnostic quote.gif

I got this from another site, check it out.
