If this is not the locking mechanism in the column itself it is due to a tumbler failing to disengage correctly. When you insert the key it should move some very small pins into channels allowing the cylinder to unlock. On occasion one or more of these pins may have become locked or stuck or even fallen out completely causing this problem. You have two options and both require you to open the steering column. Replace the whole ignition switch module which should come with new keys or to open the old ignition switch module and remove all of the pins essentially making it operate with any key that will fit in the hole, I do not recommend this except in emergencies and then only until you can get a proper switch installed. You most likely will need a special Torx type driver with a center hole cut in it to remove the outer column covering. This is usually a T-20, T-25 or T-28 size. You will need to get the proper size. A regular Torx will almost grip but there is usually a small little tip in the center that will stop it from grabbing enough to remove the screws. This is a security feature to make it more difficult to steal the vehicle.
