If the overhead lights are working but the console is not then it is a bad console. I offer a repair service in which I replace all of the faulty electronic components, and it includes a lifetime warranty. I have a bunch of tech info there; how to remove the console, etc. Check it out and drop me a note if you have any questions, thanks! www.autoclockrepair.com

If you are talking about the back light on the min / info display on the 04-08 MY, there is a bulb behind the display for the back light.
F150inline.com has directions in a thread in the How to Forum on how to remove the console and change the bulb. In the same How To forum is a thread on the repair procedure for the overhead console on the 99-03 MY where the resistor comes unsoldered, and the display is blank, 15 min total time, might need a trip to radio shack if the resistor is lost on that MY range. Quick and easy DIY procedure.

The letter "C" is flashing on the speedometer

The flashing "C" in the Instrument cluster if for the Compass. Here's the bulletine...

Subject: Compass Displays a Steady or Flashing "C" In Place Of Directional Heading
Models: 2008 Saturn VUE built on or after 11/09/2007
This PI was superseded to update Recommendation/Instructions. Please discard PIT4699.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern: The compass displays a steady or flashing "C" in place of directional heading.

To return to a normal heading display, press and hold the cluster stem for approximately 2 Seconds.

The displayed heading is not correct after driving for 30 seconds, use the following "Compass Calibration" routine.

Press cluster stem until the Season Odometer is displayed (Not Trip A or B).

Press and hold cluster Stem until the solid "C" is displayed. To the right of the "C" will be the "Zone". Refer to the variation zone map above for the correct setting. Turn the stem Right to increase, Left to decrease. It will take a few seconds for a change of zone to be updated in the display.

Once the Zone is correct, press the Stem to display the Flashing "C". Do not touch the Stem again until the direction is learned. Drive the vehicle in slow circles in an open area until you see a compass (oc tant) heading replace the flashing C.

Note: Vehicles built prior to 11/09/2007 were not built with a compass.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Engineering is aware of this condition and is in the process of root causing. It is known that the Remote Compass Module (RCM), Body Control Module (BCM) and Cluster hardware are not at fault, and these parts should not be replaced.

Reinforce with the PDI technicians that the Compass Zone and calibration is still required as part of PDI.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this answer).

My 2000 Expedition odometer turns off, then back on intermittently. Also, my compass suddenly began to show incorrect direction and my keyless entry would not unlock the doors, but locks them OK....

My odometer had the same problem starting about 40k miles. This is a very common problem on early Expeditions. At 65k miles I removed the instrument cluster and re-soldered the pins on the ribbon connector. It was actually very easy to do and only took about 30 minutes overall. I now have 160k miles and the odometer is still going strong.

The message center board located on the insturment panel that reads out the compass, mileageandtemp. is just a blank screen

You can take a look at the back of the cluster, where the odometer plugs in for cold solder joints.
I have not been able to find them yet, maybe with a magnifying glass and a good light, you will have better luck than myself.

The odometer plugs into the cluster with edge pins, and this is a place to start looking for the cold solder joints ( 97-03 MY was much easier to find the cold solder joints ).

2007 jeep compass, 21000 miles, leased vehicle. speedometer and odometer stopped working, auto locks not working, em brake light on, brake is not, abs light on, 4wd light on

leased? take that thing back and dispute that it is not safe to drive. they need to do a complete check up on that vehicle. it could be as little as the the dash malfunctuning, to brake broken and 4wd broken. which idk how that would even be possible. at 21000 miles it may still be under warrenty and there is prob something writen into the lease about problems like this. please go to your dealer

Light for odometer/compass/outside temp doesn't work

it could very well be a fuse or the relay the fuse box is usually located under the dash on the driver side and the relay box is usually under the hood on the drivers side or near the front each will have a cover that will tell you what goes to what and if you have an owners manual check in there also under fuses and relays and it can also tell you which is for what
