2000 BMW 528i After driving the car for 11 minutes the rear brake warning light comes on. Also, the yellow brake warning light has come on a couple of times as well as the yellow triangle with a curved arrow around it. The problem started after my battery died about a week ago. AAA came to my house to jump startthe cart but it was dead. AAA then towed my car to my BMW mechanic's garage. The person who towed my car used a tension cord from the brake pad to the steering wheel to lock the steering wheel. I had to have a new battery put in. Since then I have the brake warning light problem. Do I need to reset the warning light or do I need to replacde the brake switch?

Your BMW is equipped with brake pad wear sensors. This is the most likely cause of the lights coming on. To be sure why the lights are coming on, the computer system should be scanned to retrieve fault codes to see why your computer system has turned these lights on. I seriously doubt that the tension cord used during the towing process has anything to do with it other than the rare coincidence that the computer started to report the malfunction shortly after having your vehicle towed.

A reset of the warning light should have been done by your mechanic. if they did not do this or failed to do this even without your requiring it, then I would look for a new bmw mechanic. They know better than to let you take the car without checking all the warning lights especially after installing a new battery. i hope this helps, it is an easy fix for them, one that you should have not been worried about.

Have replaced ABS module on bmw 525 E39 and ABS now ok, but the ASC lamp will not go off on the dash and fault code 23 (incorrect coding) will not clear from system? Everyone told us the ABS ecu does not...

ABS/ASC module is faulty
CLASSIC ABS FAILURE SYMPTOMS:
- Most of the time, the problem is the ABS module or one of the 4 wheel speed sensors (& sometimes the brake pressure sensor)
- In my 2002 BMW E39 DSC, three orange (warning) cluster display lights lit, ABS, Brake, & DSC
- The 3 warning lights reset when the ignition is turned off, only to repeatedly reappear within minutes of normal driving
- The fault is often intermittent leading you to falsely believe you've resolved the problem (proper diagnosis is important)
- Sometimes the fault only appears when the engine is hot; other times only at speeds over 40 mph
- Carsoft may erroneously show a rear speed sensor failure; but just replacing the speed sensor may make no difference.
- All the work is in correct diagnosis of the problem; parts replacement is trivial (from 1 to six bolts in a few minutes)
- Hence, this BMW E39 ABS 3-warning light DIY will concentrate on understanding and diagnosis of the problem

Where is the speed sensor on a 2000 bmw 528i

There be one on each of your rear drive wheels.
If the speedometer and odometer do not work, the driver's side rear sensor is probably bad. If the speedometer works but the cruise control does not, then the passenger side rear sensor is probably bad.

Dcs and abs light staying on

car is sensing a problem with the stability control system (DSC) or the antilock brake system (ABS). usually an ABS problem will turn off the DSC, so DSC may be ok, just ABS needs a look at.

since its an '08 model, it should still be covered by the BMW warranty provided you live in the USA. take it in and have them fix it. not safe driving with both systems deactivated.
