The crank sensor is located on crank pulley. When the belt came off it could have broke it or the wire.

Engine died while driving on the freeway, now only cranks but wont turn over/

As with any no start problem, have you checked for spark at the plugs and normal fuel pressure at the injectors ?
Does it crank with normal compression ?

1994 Toyota tercel dies while driving, starts when crank couple time.will run good on freeways, only dies when driving in short steets.some days wont die.new timimng belt, reman distributor, cap, rotor wires...

have your alternator checked it sounds like its putting out low voltage you can do it you have a volt meter just hook it to the battery terminals you will be looking for a range of 13.5 volts to about 14 volts if your under thirteen its not enough voltage for the car to run and charge the battery at the same time.

Engine just quit without warning. No unusual sounds. Starter turns, but engine will not fire

well if the serpetene belt if frayed when was the timing belt last changed if that belt breaks it will not run and would have shut off a sign would be the engine spins over fast on some you can see the camshaft threw the hole where you add the oil if so have someone crank it over while you watch the cam

I have compression in only one of of the four cylinders.

sounds like the timing belt broke. if it is an interference engine, it may now need a cylinder head.

My belt was squeeking and before I got to change it I got off the freeway and it died when I came across the overpass at the light. It will click over but won't start. I thought I jumped the timing belt...

Nothing worse than a squeeking belt. Best solution is to spray WD40 all over the belt and loosen it up so that it deflects 2'' for proper tension.Problem solved, button it up and go drive it hard
