Module - Generic Electronic (GEM)/Central Timer (CTM) Removal

1. CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to Section 501-20B .

1. Remove the audio unit. For additional information, refer to Section 415-01 .

1. Remove the center instrument panel finish panel.
   1. Remove the screws.

   • Disconnect the electrical connectors.
   • Remove the GEM/CTM.
     1. Remove the screw.
1. Disconnect the four connectors from the GEM/CTM.
1. Remove the GEM/CTM.
2. Installation
1. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

Special Tool(s) Radio Removing Tool
415-001 (T87P-19061-A) Removal

1. Remove the radio chassis.
   1. Insert Radio Removing Tool into the radio face plate and release the radio retaining clips.
   1. Pull outward on Radio Removing Tool to remove the radio chassis from the instrument panel.
   3. Remove the radio.
      1. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
      1. Disconnect the radio antenna lead in cable.
      1. Remove the radio.

check with Harbor Freight tools. they used to sell a freeze plug remove/install tool set. I think AutoBody toolmart also sells the same tool.Once the plug is out, it must be replaced with a new one.

Yes it can be Amp problem,but there are many other possibilities like loose connection,radio wires getting short.

Only fuses for audio are located end of dash driver side
Open door clip of plastic panel
fuse 10 5amp. fuse 37 20 amp

There is special tool to remove the radio.Visit VW workshop

Your car should come with two metal hooks that, go into eachside and it should pull out.

fuse #18...yellow...20 amp

this takes a dealer only scan tool to diagnose.

You'll probably have to get to it from under the car or through the wheelwell.
