Lower ball joint wear spec 2005 Silverado 2wd

There are several different wear specs regarding lower ball joints. The official manufacturer torque spec. for lower ball joint wear (For your truck) is 5 in lbs. The official wear spec. to pass the Federal State inspection is less than 1/16" of play at the ball joint (up and down and side to side). The official wear spec. for a front end alignment is zero play.

Caravan specs

measure from were the tire bead would sit from side to side, this gives you rim width. measure the distance from the centre of the wheel stud hole to the centre one beside it this gives you distance from hole to hole. the axle dimension measure the width of the axle were the wheel rim would mount against.

How do I change the front driver side axle assembly on a 2001 Dodge Stratus?

first jack up side you will be working on and place jjackstand under the frame, next remove the wheel,to make it easier remove the caliper and tie away, dont remove the brake hose!, then remove the rotor it slides off you may need to tap backside with a hammer, next is to remove the bolt and nut from the lower balljoint, then use balljiont tool to saperate the lower control arm from spindle, you may need a pry bar to pull down on control arm to completly separte move spindle to side and let arm up, next remove the axle (cv) nut on the front, then use pry bar to pop out of trany, install new axle hold straight and slide into tray as far as you can then with nut on the axle a little tap to axle in to trany the rest of the way you will feel it go in and lock and then reverse direction to put back together, hope this helps.

How to remove CV Joints on a dodge stratus

REMOVE your whelland tire on the side that you want to make to fix, removed your brake caliper and attach it with a piece of wire to the suspention strut ,remove the part that hold the caliper, remove the bolt or the nut that hold the lower balljoint in your lower suspention arm to your stering kuckle, and separate those two parts with a long pry-bar or a suspention fork and hammer, remove your disc brake, loose the spindle nut from the axle(this big nut is in the center of whell and if you are not working witch an air impact tool loose it right after removing your whell cap before removing the whell this is a high torque on it be sure to tight it correcly when yuo ins tall it)and pull the suspension strut foward you to removed the axle from the stering kuckle take apry-bar put it betwen the transmission and axle and pry it out some trans mission fluid may leak installation is reverse.

Possible tie rod issue

Probably a worn, "ready to let go" lower ball joint. Don't drive it, have it checked a.s.a.p. Could be very dangerous situation if it lets go. Unless someone has changed rims to wrong size? Jack that wheel up off ground, add a safety stand & grab tire, by top & bottom, and push in at top, and pull out at bottom, then opposite, pull at top & push at bottom, and see how much play you have. Nothing should move other than maybe the tire itself a bit, my guess is you'll see lots of movement, if it isn't wrong rims. Now go side to side with quick **** & check for loose tie rods or other steering parts while your at it. Any slop, is not good. Have it checked.
