Question about Lincoln Town Car

1996 lincoln town car signature series. ok so changed the power steering pump, changed the steering gearbox, everything is new except the shaft leaving the firewall from the steering column, and the steering column, when turning the wheel its very tight and jerky in some spots what may be causing this the steering column or the u joint outside the firewall. im lost and i really dont want to change the steering column unless i have to. thanks

When you replaced the steering box did you check the position of the "u' joints to each other
it that is not correct , it will be lumpy to turn

lubricate boot. then tighten, using a new clamp, try using lock thread on bolt. hope this helps

No just remove the bottom cover then you should be able to push the upper cover up enough to clear so you can get to the 2 screws in the switch then remove and disconnect the connectors.
If you can not get enough clearance with the upper cover on then you will have to remove the ignition lock cylinder to remove the upper cover. To remove lock cylinder just turn to on position then look under the lock cylinder on the steering column and you will see a small hole,take a pick or small screw driver and stick it into hole to push button on lock cylinder then pull it out.

How to replace a pitman arm seal on a lincoln town car signature series

I have not had much luck replacing seals on those.. the pitman shaft gets a score line in it and starts leaking even with a new seal in a short time. Try finding a used steering box for it and check for signs of a leak before you put it on.. You will save yourself some frustration in the long run.

Noise in steering of 1996 lincoln towncar

Start by checking power steering fluid then see if noise is coming from power steering pump. listen in area of power steering pump while someone turns steering wheel for you.
