I have a 04 Rav4, the check engine light will go on and off. When on the VSC Trac light and Trac will show on panel. Diagnostic test indicated a sensor problem. should I be concerned?
I have a Toyota Rav 4 with 123,000 miles on it. The vsc light and engine light come on together. I took it to a Toyota dealer and paid approx. $500.00 to have the vsc sensor replaced because they said that the other sensor would be much more and they would start with this one. Now 80 miles or so later, both lights are back on and I am not sure what to do next. Did I get hosed at the dealer? And what should I do next?

I've taken my 2004 RAV4 to the dealer twice now because the check engine (and VSC TRAC) lights came on. Last week I was told the code indicated a slight leak in the emissions system but they could not find any leak so they reset the light. A few days later the light was back on. I took it back a couple of days ago. This time they just replaced the gas cap gasket. This morning the light is back on again. I had some body work done on the front right end - I drove away from the dealership, and both check engine and vsc trac lights came on 10 minutes later. The next day, they had turned themselves on. This happened again several weeks later, but again, turned themselves on. Now they're back on again! Not sure what might be wrong. I brought my 2007 RAV4 in for routine maintenance (oil change, tires rotated etc) and since have had this same problem. The engine check light, 4WD light and the VSC light stay on constantly. My dealer and service person both say it is the gas cap. The vehicle has less than 24,000 miles on it. Dear All - please advice I have the same problem. I imported my car Toyota RAV4 2007 from USA two months ago (I live in Poland). After a month of using the car 3 light came on: VSC, traction and Check engine. I was told at Toyota dealer that the reason might be lack of tighness in the fuel system caused most likely by the fuel tank cap - so I got brand new cap from USA and replaced it, paralel to reseting the light by disconnecting the battery. After two days all the lights are on again. Few times before I used the simple solution - disconnecting the battery but unfortunatelly it seems as it only helps for a while. Please advice sth more permanent :-) Dear All - please advice I have the same problem. I imported my car Toyota RAV4 2007 from USA two months ago (I live in Poland). Nothing special - just have all the same lights on. Not running any differently that i can tell. Thought is might have been triggered by a leak in a tire (now repaired) messing with the trac system but no more leak & lights still on.

Yes and im not sure how many sensors this car has.they can tell you at autozone for free.they even run the code test free with a print out telling you which sensor.
You can reset the computer by disconnectin the negative terminal on your battery for about 5 minutes. But I would do an OSD 2 scan to determine which sensor has gone bad so you can replace

That code relates to a crankshaft position sensor signal. It you have a check engine light come it disables the VSC and Trac system. Until you get that sensor fixed the VSC and the TRAC system will be inop. So whenever you have a check engine light come on that is what you will see. Even though you cancel the check engine light the fault still exists and the VSC/ TRAC light will come back on. That is a sure way to tell that something is wrong.
Hi, have you scanned the vehicle to see why your check engine light is on? IF no, you need to. Toyota/Lexus computer system illumniates both engine light and VSC lights whenver a fault occurs in either unit. VSC or stability control is like trac-control or ABS braking system. Get car scanned and make sure all computers are scanned for additional codes, repair them first reset lights and test drive. ON a side note, fixing check engine light will usually take VSC light away also, however sometimes the VSC system will glitch out and a Steering Angle relearn is necessary, it takes about 3mins to perform and a good quality scan tool with 2004 current software. Good Luck.
Please, make your mechanic check the ABS computer. My RAV4 did the same thing, but the mechanical components were alright. After a while, I almost fell off a cliff because my brakes stopped responding properly. When further checked, my mechanic discovered that the ABS computer was damaged. The part alone costs a whooping $3 thousand bucks, not including labor. So, beware and take precautions. Your life may be endangered.
You need a scanner to pull out the engine light codes.
Use a shopu manual to aid you with the diagnosis and repair.
The slip indicator and vsc light being on means these systems are not working. Once you pull the codes and do the repair and erase the codes the lights will go off.
There will be a code in there for the misfiring.
Good luck and keep me posted.
