Sorry to hear this has happened to you, hopefully your son didn't get hurt.

Hopefully you can see and reach both ends of the wires he cut so you can see the wires clearly (if it's hard to see, get a flashlight).

Disconnect the battery.

You need to get barrel connectors, wire strippers and a crimper.

Here's the barrel connector:****-Connector-4X313?Pid=search

Here's the crimper/wire stripper combination tool:

If you look inside the connector, you will see a piece of metal. This piece of metal will act as a "bridge" for the electricity. The crimper will squish the metal to the wire (metal to metal contact). The crimper has a color code dot in the front of the tool's mouth to show you where the barrel connector needs to go. The mouth has two places to crimp and the correct spot needs to be used to crimp correctly.

Go one by one in the crimping process so you can make sure you get this correct and not cross wire anything. Each wire has a specific color code so one end of the cut should match another end of the cut (make sure you look closely at the wire's insulation because sometimes there may be two colors on the wire's insulation). Everything should be ok as long as you pay close attention to the color codes and crimp properly.

Once you find each end of the cut wire, remove a quarter of an inch of insulation on both sides using the stripping holes found inside the crimper's handle (the quarter inch of wire should show bare metal). Take a connector and place the exposed wire into the connector (take a quick peak to make sure the wire is inside the metal tube), then take the crimper and squeeze the crimper as hard as you can where the wire and metal barrel meet. You should be able to pull on the connector without the wire coming loose. Now place the other end of the wire into the opposite side of the connector and squeeze again. Give it a tug to make sure it is on.

That's it - repeat as many times as necessary to get the ends "bridged." Once you're done, connect the battery and give it a test. You should be good to go. It's a long explanation but this is really easy to do, once you see the connector and crimper this explanation will make more sense to you.

I have a 2006 new beetle had headliner replaced now anything electric does not work windows door locks trunk sun roof

Whoever did the headliner may have cut or shorted out a wire near the sunroof if it's electric. I would take it back to them, tell them what happened, and ask them to fix the problem.

My central locking on my 1997 vw golf just stopped working it sounded like it was trying to work but now does nothing. also the gas tank cover wont open as its stuck on lock...any advice on what i can try?

the gas flap is operated with the central locking, stand at rear of car with tailgate open, just inside to the right, under the floormat you will find the central locking pump.but first renew the batteries in the remotes then unlock the car with the key and hold the key over for 30 secs, the windows may go down,
then lock the car with the key and hold over for 30 secs, the windows may go up and the sunroof,if fitted will close, then unlock with remote button held down for 30 secs, this will reset alarm/central locking.
if you need to get to gas flap, pull carpet away in boot behind flap area and pull wire to unlock....

2000 VW Golf. My windows and sunroof won't close (no noise, no trying, nothing) but everything else seems to work fine. Any ideas?

Fuse blown - look for the one with the key symbol it powers windows/locks/interior lights/sunroof operation. Then work out why it blows...could be anything on the circuit so check a lock isn't sticking on/off when operating the central locking.

Central locking doesn't work

Hi Steve.I would be checking the fuses in all fuse boxes (there is one in the trunk I believe). Look for water ingress and corrosion.

Central locking and windows unusable due to leak

I've been dealing with similar problems (windows and sunroof dead, power locks iffy, dome light doesn't work, random chiming) and best I can figure is:

a) get rid of the leak and any standing water
b) depending on the year of your car check the relays and/or central locking module

I spent a lot of time checking the ECU and door interior parts and those were both dead ends. I also thought the standing water on the floor might be shorting actual wiring, but now I've eliminated that as well. Although my alarm hasn't been going off, the "door chime" has and the instrument cluster sometimes shows 3 or 4 doors open while driving. VAG-COM showed some alarm trip type faults as well. Central locking is my next move when I've got some time.

Mirors and electric windows not working on the drivers door

99% sure if you look in the accordian between the door and frame of the car you'll find cut wires. Pull back the rubber seal and check there first. If they are you'll have to remove the harness and fix it back to the connections in the car for a good repair or order a harness.
