I have a 1998 Honda accord lx 4 cylinder that makes a grinding noise up front only when driving, not while stopped. I have changed brake pads, rotors, calapers, cv joint, and wheel bearings. The tires are not rubbing. Either is the heat shield. What could it be? My friend said it may be the transmission bearings.... But the transmission shifts perfect. If it is the transmission bearings what is the fix?? Thank you for any advice or suggestions. By the way the car has 180,000 miles.

Is the sound constant with the speed of the vehicle or speed of the engine? Does applying the brakes or turning change the noise? Does the grinding sound like metal to metal contact?

WHEN braking at any speed ,does it make any differance to the noise ,Does the noise change with the changing of the gears ,Does it do it in reverse.
IF the noise dident change going up the gears and comming down then its sounds like the diff bearings ,and if a whine then its the meshing of the crown wheel and pinion which is where the CVJoints drive from ,but with out hearing it for my self i cannot say for sure but take it and have it put on a hoist and then check it out { not on a jack.}..
Let me know how you get on ,,,thank you

Brakes make a whistle noise when applied and sometimes a low grown or grinding when coming to a slow stop or start.

A grinding or rumbling noise can also be symptoms of a wheel bearing or constant velocity joint in a driveshaft. A worn wheel bearing can also cause a 'whistling' sound (as can a worn CV joint).

A grinding noise with brakes is either worn pads causing metal to metal contact on the brake disk/rotor, or the brake backing plate catching on a spinning rotor ... or a loose/missing anti squeal brake shim (they stop the pads from rattling and vibrating).

However, as you say a mechanic has looked at the brakes and can't find anything wrong .. I think I would begin to suspect a wheel bearing or constant velocity joint on the driveshaft (front wheel drive cars).

I have a 99" Ford Windstar LX, When I press on the brakes the pedal shakes and it makes a grinding noise after driving a few miles the abs light goes on. I have replaced, pads, rotors, master cylinder,...

if you replaced all the brake parts I would check your hub bearings and cv axels if the noise is coming from front if the noise is in the rear check your e brake shoes located inside of the rear brake rotors if u have disc rear brakes or your rear brake bearings .. hope this helps

When backing up and sometimes turning right my brakes(?) make a squealing sound. Almost as though a pebble is caught and grinding on something. Honda 2004 accord-50.000miles. I was told I needed new brakes...

Your rear brake pads are most likely worn to the wear indicator which can make a high pitch squealing noise. It is very common that it will squeal when backing up, but not when applying the brakes. 50,000 miles is about the average life for rear brake pads on your car.
