Does anybody have a video link on how to flush the cooling system on a GM 3.1L SFI OHV 6cyl motor? I need a vid for this particular motor cause mine is still overheating & i have looked everywhere.

flushing a cooling system is the same method as any other motor

do it without the thermostat fitted
or water pump opening

sacrifice an old radiator hose to adapt a garden hose fitting
for radiator flush

air in system fix
your thermostat housing has no air bleed valve
no top radiator cap

old school way
heater on full
run motor till thermostats fully open
burp radiator hoses
wait till water is running up into over flow bottle without bubble
replace cap
turn off heater
correct level in over flow bottle

why still over heating
you fitted everything i would have ... yet still overheat
possibles
leaking inlet manifold gaskets
hose clamps loose
cooling fans spinning too slow
thermostatic fan switch faulty
aluminum radiator is a big one
air ..fins bent or some water channels blocked

or possible head gasket leak

My 2002 buick lasabre heater blows cold.

Assuming the cooling system is full and there are no air pockets, are both heater hoses getting hot when the engine warms up ?
If so, it could be a blend door problem under the dash.

1998 Isuzu Amigo Overheating 2.2L

It's venting compression into the cooling system. Anything from a bad head gasket to a cracked head or block. Start the engine cold and see if the pressure jumps up quick before the engine is even to running temperature. If so that's what it is.

1996 Cadillac Deville -car shows that it is overheating, a/c blows hot -took the car to 3 different shops - 2 said its the heads - 1 said its the fan blowing a fuse causing the fan not to cut on when...

if its overheating, first check water level in radiator ( i assume youve done that).. next most likely, check thermostat located inside upper radiator hose where it mounts on front of motor... replace the thermostat ( a few bucks) being careful to reinstall the same direction as the original one... see if this corrects the over heating.

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

If you have overheating problem, it can lead to multiple issues. You may be running on low coolant that's why the vehicle overheats. If that's the case, please add coolant and make sure that it sits on the right level, too much coolant can cause overheating too for coolant will overflow.

The vehicle may have a faulty or worn out radiator blower motor that's why it overheats. If that's the case then you will need a blower motor replacement to resolve the issue.

If the radiator is clogged with dirt and rusts this issue occurs too. The coolant doesn't flow normally on the cooling system if it's clogged. If that's the case, I strongly suggest that you have the radiator flushed to drain out dirt and rusts. If you think that the radiator served you enough then it's better to have it replaced.

Please do check the radiator hoses, If you have worn out hoses it can cause coolant leakage which can result to overheating. A tiny hole is good enough for the vehicle to overheat.

A faulty thermostat sensor can cause the issue too. If you have worn out thermostat, the fan may not trigger that's why the fan won't work when under stressed conditions. A blown radiator blower fuse can cause this issue too so I suggest that you check the radiator blower fuse and replace it when necessary. What causes the radiator blower fan fuse to blow? It's because of a failing radiator blower motor, If that's the case have the radiator blower fan motor replaced.

Hope you find this information helpful enough and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Overheating, but not showing on gauge and no flow to top hose in front of motor

Thermostat is stuck closed it is usually located under the flange that your top radiator hose attaches too. but since you didn't include engine information I can't say that with 100% certainty. Usually you just follow the top hose from the radiator. It is attached to a flange that is attached to the motor with two bolts. Remove the hose, remove the two bolts and the flange comes off. The thermostat justs rests in a little depression there remove it and replace it very cheap part. Make sure you use the gasket that comes with the new one. Difficulty rating: easy. Also cheap to have done. There are a couple of Caddy engines though where it is under the alternator and compressor, and the alternator bolt also holds the tensioner for the serpentine belt. Difficulty level goes way up on that one!

Where is the thermostat on a 2001 gmc sierra 1500 5.3l

follow the top radiator hose towrds the motor. you'll see a hose clamp then on the otherside of that is the thermostat housing. there's two bolts holding it on. remove that and any other little brackets that are in your way and it's right there under that housing. Drain a few gallons out of your cooling system, remove housing, and pop old thermostat out. Clean the block and housing with some emery cloth, like $0.40 at auto parts store. (Note, that might not be needed if it's an o ring instead of a gasket. People at store can tell you for sure.) Once it's shiney, place new thermostat it put on new gasket and reinstall. If o ring, place o ring on thermostat and reinstall. top of cooling system, start truck, and keep topping off fluid till it's blowing good heat and not overheating.
