2005 VW passat 1.9 TDi "immobiliser activated" on display

There may not be any other way to fix it except to replace your instrument panel. That's where your immobilizer is located. Or you could try this:

Try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery. Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery. No guarantees - I found this info at tdiclub.com.

Yes the mirrors are hinged so you can flod them against the car to keep from breaking them while being washed in an automated machine.

Imobiliser problem

If im not mistaken, your car should have an alarm reset/override.Below the steering column,on the dash should be a slot where you put your remote transmitter to deactivate the alarm. If that works, you then need to have your remote checked and coded by a vw dealer.Good luck.

VW Golf 2004 2.0l GT TDI

We think it could be the engine management system - would recommend going to a reputable garage for it to be reprogrammed.

Golf mk5 tdi sometimes wont start.

You didn't say how you got round this problem when it happened - did you keep on trying or go away and come back later? I'm thinking you may have an immobiliser issue with the ignition key not being read correctly by the detector coil in the steering column. Did you use the same key on both occasions, and did you open the car remotely or manually?
