They normally run off of the same circuit as the rear lights, so if they work, I would look at the bulbs, and if you can check with a meter to see if you have power and a ground at the bulb socket.

This light works off a power inveror which is at fault. The light consist of light emitting diodes which take alot of voltage to illuminate these diodes. The invertor is located inside the trunk and they cost well over $160

Hi,

The jiggle method is not enough you have to look at the wires. I just did and I found out that all six wires were broken close to the splice. That splice is located close to the back seat.

Hope it hepls.

Where is the fuse panels located? Brake lights are not working

Check the brake light switch atop the brake pedal arm . probably not the fuse . Go to http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html free wiring diagrams . Enter your vehicle info . year ,make , model ,engine size . Then under system click on lighting , then under subsystem click stop lamps . Check wire color into switch an check for B+ voltage . Then press the brake pedal an check for B+ voltage on the out put wire . No voltage coming out with voltage going in .the switch is bad .

Trunk wont release with button on dash or using key fob

Hi, I believe this may be a fuse problem. The owners manual will show you the fuse box or boxes locations and what each fuse powers. If it is a blown fuse it may be that something in the trunk pinched the wire and shorted it. The wires as they run from the body to the trunk lid is a good place to check for a pinched wire or short. The unlock solenoid may be the culprit if it shorted out, just a possibility. If a fuse is blown, replace it then check to see if the brake light works. If so then try opening the trunk electronically, if the fuse blows again then you know that circuit is the problem. Good Luck, Jim

The brake lights do not work, I have replaced all bulbs and fuse for the brakes on the dash passenger side panel. are there any more fuses?

Check the brake light switch located on the brake pedal arm under the dash. It could be stuck, loose, or needs to be replaced. Also, check for a brake light relay. Could also be a loose ground wire in the trunk close to the tail lights.

My Brake lights don't work

2004 Rx8 kept blowing 15amp brake light fuse. Solution: wire going to rear lights was worn and frayed where it feeds through the left trunk lip on left side of trunk. This can be seen when you open the trunk lid. The wire routes by the trunk lid hinge. If the support connectors come loose, the wires are crunched by the hinge or lid. Re-splice, insulate, zip-tie, replace fuse and replace any blown bulbs.

I have a 2001 Volvo S40, my brake lights are not working. I change the lights bulbs and fuse and still don't have brake lights?

My 2001 S60 just had the same issue. The "check brake light" error message on the dash and the brake lights not illuminating ( the upper center glass brake light would). I found that both bulbs had failed which I replaced. The fuse was okay but still the error message was found on the dash when the brake peddle was pressed. I purchasing a dealer $30.00 brake light relay and the problem is fixed. However, there isn't a diagram anywhere that shows which relay was for the brake light relay. In my 2001 S60, the relay is in the trunk, beneath the driver side removable upholstered cover. The relay panel has ~ 10ea of the same relays and a few other odd sizes. There is a vertical column of relays on the left and right. I found the brake light relay is located between two other relays on the upper right column. It was difficult to reach due to a larger relay on it’s right.

Problem with Fuse #9-tail lights&instrument panel illumination

there is an electrical short somewhere you have a power wire touching the car's body. Is there tail/brake lights in the trunk lid? if yes, check around the trunk hinge, the wiring sometimes follows the hinge back to the rest of the car and everytime you open the trunk, you are bending these wires unitl one of them snaps.

No brake lights, fuses keep blowing and wont shift out of park

I would look for a wiring short in the trunk at the taillamp area, or, inspect the sockets for the taillamp bulbs for corrosion. In any case, you have a short circuit in the trunk area, also check the wire that comes from the body & goes up the trunk hinge on the driver side; that wire may be chafed, and it may be shorting out. Hope this helps; please get back to me if you need any further assistance.
