Thanks, it should be noted that I had the spark plug wires connected as in the illustration as we found out later the service book shows the firing order going counterclockwise which I found out was wrong, after getting frustrated I reconnected the wires in a CLOCKWISE DIRECTION firing order 1-2-3-4-5-6 on a 3.1L engine 1992 Isuzu Rodeo and the engine fired up with no problems, as it stands the book is a misprint on the rotation-should be CLOCKWISE and not COUNTERCLOCKWISE. hope this will help others.

Hi,
Isuzu seem to have complicated things by changing engines, firing orders and even direction of rotation! As you can see, they've numbered the cylinders the other way than the 3.2L.

The Firing sequence for the 3.1 (traditional distributor) 6 cylinder is as follows -

1992 Isuzu Rodeo Distributor wires 3.1L engine - d6e5b2a.jpg

If you take the distributor cap off, there should be a "No.1" formed on the inside. Stick a lead on this before you put the cap back on and go from there.
As leads are different lengths, you may have to swap a few to find the best fit.

I think 2 of them will look out of place - but that's the way it's designed. Just make use of clips for holding them neatly.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Distributor wiring diagram for a 455 Buick hei to engine block

1. Connect the distributor's B+ (battery) terminal to a switched 12-volt source, such as the ignition switch.

2. Connect the distributor's tach terminal to the tachometer signal wire, if you have a tachometer.

3. Connect the distributor's ground wire to a good engine ground.

4. Connect the distributor's #1 spark plug wire to the #1 spark plug on the engine. The #1 spark plug is usually located on the driver's side front cylinder.

5. Connect the remaining spark plug wires in firing order sequence to the distributor cap terminals. The firing order for a Buick 455 engine is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.

6. Install the distributor cap and rotor.

ISUZU GIGA Engine knocking

Engine knocking usually cause by wrong connection of Spark plug wire sometimes called High Tension Wire. Check the manual and make sure the firing sequence of wire connection is properly connected to the distributor cap according to the manual. Ex is: 1-4-3-2 for 4 cyl engine.
For 6 cyl engine, 1-6-5-4-3-2 or 1-6-2-5-3-4. when in doubt, ask mechanic help. If wires firing sequence are correct, then you have to check the camshaft bearing or camshaft itself. Hope this help.

Timing issue with LT1 engine

Sounds as if your 180 out with your distributor. Bring #1 cylinder to TDC and see if the rotor is pointing at the correct plug on the cap. If it is not, then your timing is off.

How do we connect Isuzu rodeo 3.2L plug wire

FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. Firing order for a 1986 gmc s15

FIRING ORDERS

To avoid confusion, ALWAYS replace spark plug wires one at a time.

The most important thing to remember about the removal and installation of a distributor, cap or spark plug cable is that all wires MUST be labelled before they are disconnected. Keep in mind that these figures depict a firing order where the distributor cap terminals are relative to EACH OTHER only and they do not necessarily depict the tower positions in relation to the rest of the engine. This is true because any distributor which has been removed and reinstalled may have been installed with the No. 1 spark plug tower at any position (360 degrees) in relation to the rest of the motor, as long as the rotor aligned to the No. 1 tower when the No. 1 cylinder was at TDC of the compression stroke (valves closed, ready for the plug to fire). As long as the remaining wires were connected in the correct firing order sequence (depending on direction of distributor rotation) the engine will run. DO NOT EVER remove more than one wire from the distributor cap at a time unless you tag ALL wires and towers to assure proper installation.

Isuzu Rodeo w/3.1L engine

Front Passenger side on cap is 1 - if you look on the inside of your cap there SHOULD be a pin marked with a 1, and the plugs go CLOCKWISE not counter. Just had the same problem myself with my 91 Rodeo. Cylinders are as follows Passenger side (front to back) 1 - 3 - 5, Driver side (front to back) 2 - 4 - 6. I called the Isuzu dealer and they told me it was counter clockwise, but when I hooked it up that way it backfired through the Carb.
