Got service engine soon light two weeks ago , auto zone checked code , said low signal mass air flow sensor , I wiggled a wire light went out , yesterday light came on again , checked connections again , light went out , engine ran fine , about 40 miles later engine misfired and ran very rough , would not start again . Replaced mass air flow sensor per instructions , still won't start. Towed to local shop , they checked fuel pressure-ok,coil pack -ok, original mass air flow sensor signal out put is ok , plugs are firing . Engine turns over great but will not start and run , Any ideas ?
same car...same problem, but mine hasn't completely quit running yet! I can crank it over in short bursts & then it will start & run ok. wont tac over 4 grand & sounds like #$%^ when you rev it up. same car has major issue with the tac & traction control...

Yeah I have the same problem, mine still runs. When you took it to auto zone the error code was a p0102 the othe half of that code refers to the vacuum lines check that. I am in the midst of purchasing the MAF sensor and replacing it myself. Yeah I have the same problem, mine still runs. I have a 2003 grand prix, and my service engine light came on for the same error codes. When I had something fixed with the coolant leaking, the mechanic replaced the MAF and vacuum, but the service engine light came on soon after I left the mechanics. Today, it revved while I was slowing to park, then it shut off. ran great then one morning it will turn over, but not start. we jumped it, replaced starter, replaced coil pack, pressure test the fuel and sprayed starter fluid into the air breather. we used a code reader, but nothing came up. it has 162k miles. the night before it went belly up, it had snowed 6 inches and it started fine to remove the snow. the next morning the wind chill was -27 degrees and it wouldnt startran great then one morning it will turn over, but not start. we jumped it, replaced starter, replaced coil pack, pressure test the fuel and sprayed starter fluid into the air breather. we used a code reader, but nothing came up. it has 162k miles. the night before it went belly up, it had snowed 6 inches and it started fine to remove the snow. the next morning the wind chill was -27 degrees and it wouldnt start

I have a 2000 escape.it about 32 deg outside. When I first start it it splitters an coughs. Once it warms up or you drive it, it's fine. I can park it come back hours later and if it hasn't completely cold down its fine. Had the mass air flow sensor replaced ran good for about 2 weeks then started doing it againI have a 2000 escape.it about 32 deg outside. When I first start it it splitters an coughs. when I received it it was a gallon low on transmission fluid I filled it and found it needed a plug it ran fine for 2 days then it said speed sensor I found the wire had been severed and repaired it it ran fine once again all lights went out about 3 days later the light came back on so I replaced the speed sensor this ran fine for about 2 weeks then the transmission required 6000 to 7000 rpm to get it to move what do you suggest I feel thers most likely a leak somewhere and I have lost fluid againwhen I received it it was a gallon low on transmission fluid I filled it and found it needed a plug it ran fine for 2 days then it said speed sensor I found the wire had been severed and repaired it it ran fine once again all lights went out about 3 days later the light came back on so I replaced the speed sensor this ran fine for about 2 weeks then the transmission required 6000 to 7000 rpm to get it to move what do you suggest I feel thers most likely a leak somewhere and I have lost fluid again

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

If you unplug the MAF sensor it should run using the default mapping. I'm having the same problem, but I want to figure out why it won't run with the sensor connected.

So you replaced the sensor and now the light is back on, right? Have you checked the code again to make sure it's still the MAF sensor code? If so, you've got a connector or wiring harness issue.
ok lets start with the codes they say your getting. P??? which 1's and how many. there are few o2 sensors, are they next to the Exhaust next to the converter? MASS AIR FLOW -MAF use this, for now i am guessing, until i see the correct codes your are getting. this could be the 1 you may have below, please read it........
Faulty mass air flow sensor
- Intake air leaks
- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor circuit poor electrical connection
Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner. Reset code and drive vehicle. If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.
possible symptoms Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Engine stall
- Engine running rough
- Excessive fuel consumption
- Excessive smoke
the code is generated when An excessively high voltage from the sensor is sent to Engine Control Module (ECM).
you don't have to replace the mass air flow sensor, CRC makes a mass air flow sensor cleaner i would try that first but if it doesn't work then you'll need to replace it

this vehicle most likely has a mass air flow sensor it may have got accidently unplugged or the air tube from mass airflow to engine is not connected well or it could be that you have indeed a bad mass air flow sensor they do make a special cleaner that you may want to try before purchasing a mass air flow sensor or purchasing one from salvage yard the symptoms you describe would be created by a bad massair flowsensor
Most faultcodes don't disappear automaticly, the have to be 'reset' manually after repairing. It sounds like the code didn't get erased after replacing the MAF. You could try to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes (disconnect and reconnect the negative (-) pole), which should erase the code.
Whenever the engine light still comes back on after that, there probably still is some (other) problem ...
sounds like you have a vacuum leak, check all the vacuum hoses and replace any broken or kinked ones, also check around the intake manifold gasket for leaks. any air leaks after the air flow meter creates 'un-metered' air which inturn will make the car run rough and stall, hope this helps
